BLAH BLAH BLAH, my money this, my money that.

They need some kind of funds to bring out v2.0 but you people don't want to pay them for their hard work and the work that's ahead.

I give them my money, 12 a month? that's like 2 hours of minimum wage work. You people said the same thing, buying an 80 dollar collector's edition game for a game that wasn't finished, you got over it. You either quit or kept playing for free for a whole year.

I'm actually TOTALLY cool with paying half price for the game until 2.0, given the timeline it'll only work out to be a hair over the price of this game at release, which I have a far easier time stomaching than paying over twice what the box cost was at release in order to play content which will be obsolete and erased by next year.

Let's assume that FFXIV has 50,000 player base. Based on the poll on these forums, 69% of people will pay, 31% won't pay.

That's 34500 players who will remain and pay. That brings SE ~$500000 a month in revenue assuming the $15 a month plan. After one year, when 2.0 comes out, SE will have raised $6 million in revenue. The later they instill a subcription model, the less resources they have to make their vision come to fruition.

It's really simple. Am I having fun the in the game. Is that fun worth $15 dollars? Hell yes!!!! $15 dollars a month for entertainment is nothing. However, if you feel this game isn't worth $15 a month, come back in 2.0. I, for one, will welcome you with open arms and my multiple rank 50s (^^).
spoken with truth. This game will be makin some money. which means SE can make the game better. We got a year and 2 months free. They invested a lot and its clear they will not stop into this game is complete.

And I'm sure that in more than several cases, the people who purchased that $80 CE continued to play the game despite all its flaws because it remained free to play in the interim of the fixes. The people who already had purchased the game were not going to recoup those costs unless they were lucky given the terrible reviews and many return policies on MMOs. Getting over the one time payment for the game was made very easy given that they were not going to incur any more cost by continuing to play. The question back then was whether the game was enjoyable enough to spend time on, the initial costs were sunk and the subscription service was suspended indefinitely, so the only consideration was time spent.
Well things are going to be different now, there is a new consideration as to whether the game is enjoyable enough to spend time and money on. It doesn't matter what your financial situation is, everyone is going to have to make the same decision, whether they are conscious of it or not, as to if the game is something they would consider worth paying a subscription for. Price of the subscription is a factor here to be certain, for I think a lot of people who are against paying full subscription prices for a year before a truly full game is realized would be willing to part with half that amount in fees for an admittedly half-finished game, only to see full price when 2.0 arrives.

In the business world, you are what they call a sucker.

If SE is unwilling to advertise and have a relaunch event in November or December, then that means that the game is not in a state where it's ready for retail. Asking people to pay up now, before the game's rebirth, is almost as pathetic as them launching this broken-ass game trying to boost their sales figures. It's going to drive even more people away and put SE in even worse shape.

I wasn't talking about purchasing the new client, I was talking about seeing full subscription price start at the release of 2.0 and having a reduced subscription price between late november and then. Also, why are you being so hostile? If you are comfortable paying the subscription with the game as it is now or will be with patch 1.20, that's perfectly fine with me, I have no opinion about you. I do however have an opinion as to whether the game is worth a given subscription fee and I'm trying to look at things objectively to decide on that issue.

Asking them to continue to pay people to work on this game, which they're not charging for is harsh no matter how you cut it. You may not feel the game is playable or payable I should say in this current state, but I do, and I also believe the more people pay, the more content we'll receive from them, and the quality of the content will overall go up. There's over a hundred people working on FFXIV, i know for some of you math may not be your strong suit, but I'm sure at least everyone working there makes over 20-30k a year on the low end (not main devs, they make more, I can't even guess how much, I'm sure people like Yoshi-P or Matsui make less money than shareholders like Tanaka, but I'm sure their work doesn't come cheap.) So 100 multiply is by 20k minimun and you get 2,000,000. At least 2mil wow, that's still money, you can't expect a company to pay that out for little to no reason just cause you don't want to pay.

We should be paying for a finished product not fund development of a unfinished one. It's how every other game is you pay once there is a good finished product. Not pay them for a year and hope its good by then.
