I agree completely, i just never understood why the idea that He himself was a Samurai began, particularly when his title says it all.

Why are so many people trying to push Red mage as a tank in this game? Sure in other games it was a jack of all trades master of none.

But honestly adding red mage as a tank seems like it would be just a shield-less paladin with a rapier and en-magic.

    White magic? Paladin has it
    Self buffs? Paladin (stoneskin, etc)

The only thing they don't have is "black magic" but I still feel like it would be much more suited as a dps.
They try to push Red Mage to the Tank role to justify the idea of a Samurai DPS role, if there is one then the other has to be different mentality. Never mind that the number one hint at RDM (a certain young Elezen girl) pits her Limit Break (like) attack against another characters DPS Limit Break... All the while demanding a Sword DPS.

There are even those that try to claim that as DRK has a two handed sword, it's play style and animations would be to similar to a two handed Katana wielding Samurai... DRK's use an over large sword (almost to heavy to wield) and dark magic derived from the void... Thematically aspects not at all similar to any representation of Samurai in past Square - Enix games.

Thea's a reason for that. Typically, iconically, traditionally, if someone uses a sword they are most often to challenge another to a duel face to face. It's a corner stone of the fantasy genre. As i have said before, there are very few depictions of a sword user attacking someone from behind. Though if have some of those depictions could be found i welcome them, of particular interest would be samurai attacking people from behind.
