Metroid. F-Zero. Donkey Kong. Star Fox. Others pointed out above, ha.
Nintendo beats the pants off of PS4 and Xbone for first-party IPs, and it's not even close. Throw in solid third-party support and the Switch's library would be second to none.
Pricing and specs, not library, will decide the system's success.
I'm not seeing any titles that would convince me that Nintendo deserves any sort of pedestal. All of them were great titles in their day, sure, but as much as I love Samus and the Metroid series I'm not going to pretend they've put out a decent Metroid game since Prime. F-Zero and Kirby have been silent except for Smash Brothers games, Star Fox is the same old same old, ditto for Pokemon.
I'm not saying they couldn't turn it around with the Switch, and I hope they do, because I'd love to see some fresh, good new Metroid and F-Zero and Star Fox titles. But a pedestal? Nah, I don't think so.

The more info we get the more distaste I have for it.
And all these great IPs that Nintendo holds, which I agree are some of the best out there in the gaming industry, have not exactly propelled Nintendo to the top of the market over the past 20 years of steady decline.
Pokemon sells individually, Zelda sells individually, etc... but when it comes down to it Nintendo is still clearly and firmly planted behind Playstation and Xbox in the industry as far as the bottom line is concerned. And when we're talking about mega corporations that bottom line is pretty much the only thing that matters.
No matter where you go; there you are.
The issue is that these are all decades old. For the most part the newer versions of these games don't bring anything new and/or exciting to the gaming world, and are simply good for people who are new to the gaming world.
They have a lot of very low quality IP's for sure. Sony wins out not in quantity but quality.Metroid. F-Zero. Donkey Kong. Star Fox. Others pointed out above, ha.

Kirby's been fairly active for a Nintendo IP. I think they released a 3DS Kirby game earlier this year. Whatever that Wii U one was too. To be honest, if those titles in general aren't reason enough for you to get a Nintendo system, then it's just not for you. It's wrong to think that a company is out to market to you specifically. They don't know you, so they don't care about what you specifically like or dislike.I'm not seeing any titles that would convince me that Nintendo deserves any sort of pedestal. It'd be like me saying that Battlefield 1 needs to do a better job at appealing to me, because it just doesn't look like a game I would care about. The devs, producers, and community that does want it could not give less of a damn about my opinion on that matter lol. They'll do their thing without me.
No one asked you to put them up on a pedestal. People are going to like and be excited for what they like. Don't hate just for the sake of hating lol. Nintendo has far more successful exclusive IPs than the rest of the gaming companies, they're fine on the market they cater to as far as that's concerned. If they were more focused on falling in line with the unsurprising and completely expected ways that Sony and MS do their consoles, they would... but it's kinda obvious they don't care to. For better or worse lol.
Do they? The amount of support Sony gave its handheld venture is pretty damn lackluster by comparison to the 3DS. If anything, Nintendo has the better quality control for most of their big IPs. You can't really say the same on MS and Sony. Most big hit titles on those consoles aren't even really exclusive. There's a reason why those consoles are aiming to be a budget PC now.The issue is that these are all decades old. I feel that it would be more like promoting PS4/Xbox One as having great libraries, if all they put out were decade+ old series that have done well (i.e. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Final Fantasy) and offered 0 new and interesting IP's.Kirby's been fairly active for a Nintendo IP. I have no issue with Nintendo having Mario/Zelda/Donkey Kong etc., but it's been forever since I've seen them put out a quality game that wasn't one of their tried and tested. It's in large part due to their lacking 3rd party support.
Indeed, Nintendo has definitely a stronghold on the portable market. That said, I personally had a 3DS and a Vita. Both consoles were hugely disappointing, and both consoels gave me a few games that I loved. Vita notably had Persona 4, and 3DS had Tales of the Abyss and Pokémon. In both cases (outside of Pokémon) they're just ports from old playstation consoles.Do they? The amount of support Sony gave its handheld venture is pretty damn lackluster by comparison to the 3DS. I purchased a number of other games for both systems and they were all pretty boring. I wasted an unfortunate amount of money on both of them. I guess, luckily?, I wasted less money on them than I did on the Nintendo Wii.

What??? LOL.They have a lot of very low quality IP's for sure. Sony wins out not in quantity but quality.
Nintendo's first-party IPs are amazing. Don't conflate the Wii U's small sales numbers with the strength of Nintendo's IPs. Even the Wii U's first-party library is absolutely solid.
Yes, THIS.Nintendo has the better quality control for most of their big IPs. You can't really say the same on MS and Sony.
And who cares if many of Nintendo's IPs are older? Nintendo is great at spacing out their launches and making each title stand on its own. It's the complete opposite approach as slapping out FPS after FPS with new coats of paint.
