Still, it's frustrating when an NPC "dies" in your arms... and you're totally in your healer job, Scholar crystal equipped and Eos summoned, and you have Swiftcast, Resurrection, and Lustrate on your hotbar, with three charges of Aetherflow ready to go. I can heal some dumbass tank to full from KO because he was standing in fire, but I can't save my "best friend"?

I always thought that when you run out of HP in battle you are basically knocked out and unconscious, hence unable to fight. The spells used by healers can revive you and make you able to fight again, but they are working on someone who isn't actually dead. If you were actually dead, abilities like Raise wouldn't have any effect, otherwise why would anyone ever die?

    Dying in cutscene = RIP
Dying in actual combat = Fell down and can't get back up

There are notable deaths in other games that work the same way.

Very prominent in the Final Fantasy series.

Well known should be Aerith in FF7.

The most story characters died in FF4 (the original).

FF II is higher...to the point where you can create a full party of dead characters

I'd say that having the Echo might be the reason why. This dumbass tank's aether stick to this world. (And his body is not shattered)
