I was a legacy player so SMN and SCH were not around when I initially played.
The reason I lumped them together is I always felt an oddity with those jobs. It didn't make sense that if you level SMN to 60 that you automatically become a SCH 60. So someone who has never healed a dungeon before can suddenly queue into dungeons for gear. It was to me a long time issue. And before you get on my case about it. I used to be a main SCH. In fact I leveled 30-60 as SCH and not SMN. It was fairly easy to do and such I didn't understand the need to be equivalent in levels. I would rather have learned SMN over from 30-60 then derp.
OFC there is the argument that because SCH could only dot and bane which is what a SMN basically does so I can see why they felt the need to make the level up the same. It just for me, I like to level things so it felt odd to be a SMN even though I really didn't do much work to get it.
But that's just my opinion. lol

50 is excessive, the reason why 30 is sucha good number is because 30 is around the time the job/class really starts. From 1-30 the rotations are pretty simple but once you go into 30+ you get into the meat of the job. So having someone start there and take a quick glance at the abilities is a lot more feasible then having them start at lv 50 since that's a lot to have to learn at a glance compared to 30.
it's not excessive when the new cap is 70. 30-50 takes less time than 50-60. 50-60 is enough of a "training" ground. especially if the jobs change a lot above 60 as they are implying (unless whatever the changes are affect the whole game).
it's pointless to learn and play BRD from 30-50 since WM is a thing. making people learn BLM without Enochian, SMN without Dreadwyrm Trance, DRG without BotD are all really wasteful.
They should start at level 1 but they will start at 30 like the others did.
Personally, I feel SE should just do away with the class/job system since they are giving us the role system and start all the jobs at 1. But that more than likely wont happen this expansion at least, so they'll probably start at 30 like the others.
I just hope they aren't gated behind the MSQ like AST/DRK/MCH were. That was downright mean. "I really want to play this class, but first I have to level some other class-that I have no intention of playing in endgame- to level 50." Honestly who thought that was a good idea?
Doing away with classes? Fine. Just make the new jobs accessible at level 30 after completing Sylph Management like all the other jobs. Leveling a class you don't want to level 30 is a lot less painful than leveling a class you don't want to level 50.
