Fanfest 2016 - Not worth the price

And I'm not saying you have to spend money how I personally see fit. I'm just saying that, to me at least, it comes off as short sighted, wasteful and frankly a bit subservient to the company.

Its not subservient if you wanna buy it. Its a want to buy it. Could I have gotten the info off reddit? Sure. But huddled on my phone for a blow by blow would not have been fun. Its like sports or whatever. You can get scores online for free, and you encourage ever rising prices for PPV by getting it sure, but that Super Bowl party wouldn't be the same if everyone's on their phone. My wife and kids loved it, we watched in on the TV with snacks both nights. It was fun. It was worth the money to me.

I feel I'm not making myself clear. It is fine if you find value in it. It is fine if you have the funds and want to pay for it.
But the point I am trying to make is: the only reason you are being charged for it at all is because you allow them to do so, and we all end up having to pay for it. It's taking advantage of you to take advantage of everyone, and if it wasn't allowed in the first place, you would be 30 bucks richer and still have the information they tried to keep behind the paper napkin that is a password protected streaming site.

They are under no obligation to stream the event at all. Its something they did to allow people who couldn't get to the Fanfest to watch the panels. Lets not start to get carried away about what we deserve for our pretty small fee of $15 a month.

Lets also not forget that any revenue raised from things like this and the cash shop benefit us as players. The substancial server upgrades that we are getting in 4.0 will be due to the additional revenue raised from things like the cash shop. Same with the EU servers.

The only reason I regret buying it is because I do not have the yuna outfit now. I feel mislead.

Your still getting it. Its just not going to be yet. Think of it this way. If Las Vegas was the last Fanfest would you be ok with Japan and Europe getting the glamour almost 6 months a head of you? That is probably the logic behind it. Everyone gets it at the same time to be fair.

Perhaps not, but it's not very smart to keep news about your game or franchise hidden away where only the most affluent can hear it. That defeats the point.

I find that difficult to believe that as so very many other companies and conventions can do it without such a side charge. And let's not forget the overall size and scope of Square. They're a multi-billion dollar company with revenue from all over. I find it very hard to believe they need to charge people for this. They're doing it because they can. They're hardly helpless.

Look at Blizzard who is a larger company then SE they charge $40 for their convention stream. There are very few companies that hold conventions for their games, but most of them do charge money to watch it. $30 for the FFXIV fanfest stream seems like a good price to me.

Well firstly, Blizzard's revenue is half that of Square's, and secondly, Blizzard is infamous for nickel and dimeing over everything it can.

I flatly refuse to believe the whole "poor company" argument for any company as large as them.

That usually included in the price of ticket for people that actually attend the fan fest, the stream for most part just extra money for them.
