Has anyone considered that they are both indeed monks, but (with higher budget and dropping of ps3) have male and female animations for the same job.

As this is the teaser to a larger trailer being released later, I'd like to imagine that almost directly after the cutoff point for the teaser, the crimson lady stops using monk moves and starts using dancer moves entirely to defeat her WoL friend, or I suppose to cheat at their little game. So as far as wild speculations go, that's what I think will be the case when the longer version is released. I guess I will have to eat my darksteel foil hat if I turn out to be wrong.
Honestly, speculation and excitement is great, especially from a business standpoint. It can also be good for the conmunity, if we follow some simple guidelines first! Please don't personally attack one another and also please don't state as fact what we can't for sure rule out as an opinion.
Come on, people! It's a happy time! A new expansion, new information, new stuff to hypothesize over! Dig in!![]()
I think it might be dancer, and the reason to why it's so similar to monk and at the same time it isn't, it's because in this game dancer won't be a "female-only" job anymore, like on other FF titles. They need to create something that doesn't look weird or stupid on the opposite gender of the same job, but at the same time give it an identity. I have no idea of how a Dancer job would look like on male characters since it's something completely new to the FF fanchise, and I really hope SE doesn't make dancer the first gender-locked job of the game. Maybe in the full trailer we'll see more fancy dancey moves, and it's also worth mentioning that the hand she's using for punches in the trailer is not the same with the blade hidden, so there's also the possibility that yes, she's being a monk, but in the moment she "switches" styles to use her blade for fighting she goes into dancer job. If it's really Yda it might be a nice way to show her transition since she's been a monk ever since, but we know nothing about her, so maybe her "monk" fighting style is just something she had to develop herself to cover up the dancer moves in combat to preserve her identity.
Y'shtola is not a normal conjurer, Alphinaud is not a normal arcanist and don't even get me started on Alisaie. If Alisaie really is a Red Mage I doubt we will learn how to use the job through Arcanist grimoires. SE likes to give different abilities to major NPCs to create a sense of uniqueness, so the fact that "Yda" might be using her dancer moveset on a certain way doesn't translate into "the warrior of light will use the moveset on the same way". I think the whole idea of the Warrior of Light and jobs is to explain how we can achieve what no other NPCs can. And the fact that my White Mage is different than Y'shtola only means we have a certain uniqueness capable of changing the way out aether manifests itself.
In the end it might not be dancer on the trailer, or it might be a transitioning between two jobs, or even something else, but the fact they "never did it before on trailers" doesn't mean there's no room for doing it for the first time. Not showing a new job on a trailer or hinting/teasing it is not a rule. This is something we as the community started to believe just because they didn't. And the reason to why they didn't isn't because they can't, it's because they didn't wanted to. But time goes by, things change, and just like every other trailer and game in the market not every trailer or teaser will follow the same concept for years and years.

very unlikely, because it will recquire to do it for every job out, means more of 13 jobs.... that way too much even with abandonning the ps3.
Well yes, you and I may think that, which seems obvious. However China and Japan haven't exactly gotten along in the past...and this is especially true in the martial arts world. Which is why im pleasantly surprised to see Chinese aspects in there. Yes they belong there for what it was showing, but some developers might have (and have in the past) changed it to seem more Japanese. Yes were in a new era and the hate is slowly fading, but I love to see Chinese aspects in my manga/anime/video games because of the past.
As for the dancing combat argument, many Chinese forms/styles had a fluid like movement similar to dancing and what we saw in the trailer. Again, maybe it is a dancer...but I HOPE it isn't, because of the monk clone aspect.
Maybe they did this on purpose for a debate. I doubt it but still :P
I don't know why everyone WANTS the lady in red to be a dancer? If THAT'S dancer, it's way too similar to MNK stylistically. Talk about lame.
Um...why is chatting on a forum having fun speculating suddenly a bad thing?
I fail to see why you needed to make this thread at all basically telling people to stop talking about the game they like and jobs they like on the forums for that game. Pretty sure that is what General Discussion is for yeah?
Sorry to burst YOUR bubble but speculation over expansion content is normal and the reason it is speculation is because there is no concrete proof. No one cares if there is no proof. They are just having fun making theories and looking at what information is available so far. It's also something called "hype" maybe you are unfamiliar with it.
Most of the post is good, but with a small problem here: Dancer's been a reoccuring job, being in V, XI, Tactics, A2, and Dimensions, only being explicitly tied to females in the Tactics games.
Uh, Final Fantasy XI handled Dancer just fine. Male and Female job. And it was/is awesome.I think it might be dancer, and the reason to why it's so similar to monk and at the same time it isn't, it's because in this game dancer won't be a "female-only" job anymore, like on other FF titles.
I mean that's DNC AF
