AGREED, cause no matter what tank you pick now, they do the same thing. Press 1,2,3, or 1,2,3,4 then press a defensive cooldown here and there and move out glowie ground.
Boring.
Doubtful. That would make three sword based tanks. We need a little variety there.
idk you but DRK have a complety and diferent gameplay compared to WAR and PLD, if you say is just a PLD resking i recomend you turn on darkside, if you become about shadowskin vs rampath, the i can say a NIN is a PLD with damage buff instead of defensives bcs they have the same combo system.
this is a MMO not a monster hunter where all whe are dps to kick ass big monsters, you cant, keep a MMO with 3 tank/heales and 1.000 dps.
"Completely" is a massive exaggeration.idk you but DRK have a complety and diferent gameplay compared to WAR and PLD, if you say is just a PLD resking i recomend you turn on darkside, if you become about shadowskin vs rampath, the i can say a NIN is a PLD with damage buff instead of defensives bcs they have the same combo system.

They took some features of PLD and some of WAR, and added a little on top.
It's not a complete reskin either.
Similar with AST, they took the formula, and added something on top for its gimmick.
But as mentioned above, the 123 threat combo, 123 DPS combo, pop CD, and that awefully short ranged 15y pull are the core fundamental similaries to the roles play styles, with extra features added on top (excluding PLD until 60, when sheltron is pretty much the only unique thing about PLD, but even then, its an easier/weaker version of inner beast)
WAR has some CDs that require hitting an opponent to actually mitigate dmg, like inner beast, and requires building up stacks, where as PLD and DRK usually just pop them when they are up/tank buster comes out.
Something a long the lines of how SMN is "press ruin/filler" when DoTs are up, and then put up dots in which ever order you prefer when they are down, is a bit different from the 1, 2, 3 combo.
Similar to WARs storms path, as a means to mitigate is different, but copying it now would be a bit pointless. (Then again I gave an example that copies SMN, but in tank format, which makes me look to SMn again for another mitigation idea, which is something like Bane, to spread mitigation statuses)
We also lack a tank with their GCD reduced liek MNK/NIN
We also have no tanks with longer reaching pulls outside of voke. (very annoying when paired with sprinting casters, or BRDs having longer reach than you)
Ranged pulls dont have any combos either.
AoEs dont have any combos either.
So on, and so forth.

I would prefer the class to be DPS but honestly I just want the class in the game. If I have to tank so be it.
well all melees work with 123 combo, with tanks have 3 combos, 1 agro, 2 for dps/utility, dragoon monk and ninja work with this system too with 2/3 123 combos, but gameplays looks diferent thanks to mudras, greasing ligthning and blood of dragon, same for tanks, stack managment, MP management, and dots managment if you look like that on paladin, yeah complety can be a exageration but the darkside/dark arts gameplay is very diferent to any paladin or warrior gameplay, dps have too similar thinks, like stuns or have a buff all time to keep they dps.
i dont care if samurai go to dps or tank, but say no to more tanks.... all roles deserve have new gameplays to play and have fun not only dps how have the most variety.
Thought i read somewhere yoshi said 2 jobs were finished 1 was still being developed he wasnt sure if would be ready in time :/
Tnak makes sense a DPS or a tank. On one hand I can't picture SAM being in heavy tank armor, they'd fit DRG's maiming armor better. But also, I can't picture SAM having positionals from flank/rear as anything other than a frontal fair-and-square attack violates the code of bushido and is seen as dishonorable. NINs are assassins so they get positionals, DRG are pikeman/spearmen are are used to fighting dragons whom are naturally stronger than any man anyway and thus positionals are meant for getting around weakpoints in their hide. MNK is about exploiting weakpoints and feinting/countering (lore-wise, hence Haymaker) so they get positionals for their martial arts. SAM as a DPS would need some kind of good reason to attack from an enemy's blindside. This was alluded to even in FFXI with the Overwhelm trait (which in JP translated to Fair-and-Square) https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Overwhelm
It will be very messy if they include multiple DPS jobs at once for queues/role balancing unless they increase the required amounts of people in a duty from the current 4/8 (seems unlikely). Wouldn't be surprised if they decided to push Samurai back for an expansion that centers around the East, we've had no confirmation it'll be in Stormblood at all.
