The no neck tattoo could be a mistake that the cgi team made. Much like how Hraesvalgr was used instead of Nidhogg. That and maybe they're still trying to keep some semblance of mystery before 3.5's reveal.

Tattoos in the real world can be removed, I'm pretty sure they can do something similar with with Sharlayan magic

At this point I am assuming these CGI trailers/cutscenes are the Warrior of Darkness's story before he became the Warrior of Darkness. Don't forget the world the WoD is from is very similar to the world of FF14 we know but people's life has taken different turns and twist resulting in slightly different events while majority of things we know remained the same.

For example, Hraesvalgr in the First World may have been the one to start the Dragon Song War while Nidhogg remains the Good Dragon. The events still follow similar to our WoL but with the difference that the WoD did not have the Scions as allies but instead the other Warrior of Darkness took the Scion's roles and Hraesvalgr was the final boss of the Dragon Song Arc for the WoD while First World Nidhogg would help bring peace and end the Dragon Song War in the First World.
