I can see where you are coming from. However, I find World Quests to be significantly more fun than Beast Tribe quests. They feel more seamless. Maybe it's some combination of the following
- They are anywhere in the new zones, not locked to a small subsector
- There are a LOT more different quests to choose from, giving you more variety
- If you are just going for your daily, you have a lot of quests to choose from, rather than being locked to the 3 the game chose for you
- Voice acting helps immerse you in the quest
- As you mentioned, rewards are better (and varied, i.e. gear, gold, resources)
- You can see the reward given on the map
- You can contribute to quests with the people around, forming a sense of community and massive world - vs in FFXIV it's locked to your duty
Personally, I find Beast Tribe quests a bit of a nuisance, but not bad. Whereas World Quests I find amazingly fun.
/facepalm Who cares op bye
for me id also say it has alot to do with play style like for me I love the msq , and ive been playing for 3 months Im in novice network and I engage with my fc what Ive notice the difference in me and other players is that I dont rush content , like who says as soon as I have to play the game i have to rush through to finish the msq , like Ive been leveling my classes and learning how to work the market board, I think some of the problem why any game feels meh is that many people spam through the content and after they are done with it , are like whats next , because for me if I have to level my classes anyway why rush through msq quest and make it to level 60 finish the whole story and then have nothing left to do but level my classes , I think its all in the approach , my whm is my main level 56 and im on the level 36 quest in the msq , but I guess my approach only works if you like msq
Ive been running raid and end game guilds in MMO's for over 15 years. Its more than just my little bubble. My opinions are drawn from my experiences over those years and across numerous games. FFXIV has a problem with overworld content. There is too big a disconnect between players and the world. There are a multitude of ways they could help address that, but it boils down to giving players an exciting reason to spend more of their playtime in the actual game world and less time standing in social hubs popping in and out of instances. Beastmen dailies are just another chore list. Hunts are zerg content that often dies in 30 seconds or less then ppl warp right back out. Treasure maps are good. There isnt enough happening here though. I hate how disconnected I feel from the places, towns, and zones in this game. Its a disconnect Ive never felt in any other MMO, and it exists because 90% of the games chore list's are completed standing in a social hub or housing district. I want a reason to to be in the world, and I know its been an argument many have made for a long time in this game.Yes it is because you live in your own little bubble. Overworld content has to be have limited rewards because if the rewards are really good people will fight over it and only a very small percentage of people will win. All the people who lose constantly would rather that content get instanced so they have a shot at it.
I'm out in the overworld nearly every day between treasure maps, beastmen dailies and hunt bills. they should do more with all of those but i don't think they need to drastically add new systems to the overworld that will alienate other players.
But they really need to change itemization to make those more worthwhile.
Fair enough. The point I'm making is that I personally feel the lack of a real overworld is one of the biggest design flaws in an otherwise well done game. RIFT was an MMO I felt done a good job with the overworld, at least the 2 or so years I spent in that game. The zones were always teaming with things going on, and the hub:zone ratio Id say was almost exact opposite of what it is in ffxiv. Im asking for a reason to be in the zones, I dont think that is a harmful request to the game, even if you disagree. Wouldnt you like to see hundreds of people crawling around the zones with things going on ? Or do you prefer them sitting largely lifeless? My opinion is that this is a real flaw with this game and I hope we see some new life in zone content in 4.0
They won't try anything new because why should they?.
What this game needs is competition, kinda why i hope WOW steps up it's game even though i don't play it.
In Patch 4.1 the only thing that was released content-wise was the Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub remakes. These were separated into their own roulette that was your best way of getting the equivalent of tomestones of scripture. This was the only way to get scripture equivalent except from raiding, and I don't believe you could cap it from raiding anyway unless you were farming all 10 and 25 mans with their heroic equivalents, which nobody did.
More importantly, there was literally no reason for geared up players to go into the old dungeons of the same expansion, so queue times were absolutely abhorrent. It is an entirely different situation. I can get a dps queue to pop in like 12 minutes in FFXIV, when WoW dps queues were easily half an hour at minimum.
My bad then. I guess instead of never, I will rephrase and say "recently". DPS queues in WoW are generally shorter than DPS queues in FFXIV, but not significantly so. To get into expert roulette in FFXIV in 3.4 takes ~14 minutes. To get into a heroic random in WoW in 7.0 takes ~8 minutes. In Patch 4.1 the only thing that was released content-wise was the Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub remakes.
