It was in an interview awhile back. The same one where he said if you get burned out on the game you can go play another one and then come back for the fresh patch.

What Ashur is saying is that content becomes "old content" faster in FFXIV. While there are reasons to go back, they are still fluff reasons for the most part. Whereas in other MMOs, content will be current content for much longer than 3 months.FFXIV does the best at keeping old content relevant out of all MMOs I've ever played. Roulettes, wonder tails, and first time bonuses are great at keeping players doing old content. I've never had a reason to go visit old content in WoW unless I wanted a glamour, pet, or minion, and I'm always better off soloing so I don't lose it to anyone else.
So you are right, FFXIV is great at keeping people running old content, but they also make content old faster.
Revamped Itemization
I like being able to plan ahead. RNG is the bane of my MMO life and there is gonna be even MORE of it than we already have, I'm the one out of here instead of you.
More interesting stats wouldn't hurt though, although I don't mind them the way they are right now either and would prefer them even over not optimally balanced new stats.
Overworld Content
Absolutely agree, although the playerbase are the ones who'd be the biggest problem with that. A dangerous but rewarding overworld would frustrate many, and if it goes the way of FFXI's HNMs...well, we've all seen what hunts do to people..
New Types of Content
Throwing a new type in from time to time is all I want, but I do agree that by the way they are implementing things, many get shafted by the playerbase just because they are hard to use or not rewarding enough - Deep Dungeon being pretty much the only exception so far.
Shift away from fluff content
No. I understand that different people look for different things in a MMO, and if you dislike glamours and minions and mounts, well, that's fine. But many others do (or even have that as their sole reason for playing this game!).
I love fluff and while you want it to go away to not quit, if they dropped that it would make ME leave. SE can't please both sides, so I'm gonna make my voice heard as well and say that to me, fluff is more important than a handful of random new stats on gear that someone will figure out in a week anyway and then we'll be back to farming BiS again.
What you're saying is true, but I don't consider the 6 months in WoW where there was only two dungeons worth grinding to be a good thing. Especially killer is the literal year plus long content droughts at the end of an expansion that always seems to happen now. Also these fluff reasons are pretty effective at getting people back into old content. Almost nobody will join you when doing old content in WoW because it's more beneficial to just solo it.What Ashur is saying is that content becomes "old content" faster in FFXIV. Overworld content over rated? I know a lot of people who would beg to differ. I hate the fact that the zones in this game are largely useless. Unless you have a quest that takes you there, or you are a gatherer, the zones in the game are largely ignored and empty. I hate that. I have a flying mount but rarely ever find msyelf in the zones flying simply because there is nothing there, no reason to be there, nothing to do there. 90% of my play is done from standing in the yard of my house. I can go from 1-60 and never leave my yard aside from class quests. I hate that. Weve had this discussion in FC on several occasions and its an issue ive raised for YEARS in this game....We have big nice zones but a dozen players running around in most of them because nothing meaningful is there. I have never felt such a disconnect from the game world in any other MMO. Ive put likely thousands of hours into this game over the years, and I bet some of the zones Ive spent less than 10 hours in total. There is a real disconnect I feel with the world and I wish I didnt.- New itemization - yes, getting rid of tomes - no.
- Over-world content is over-rated for most of the playerbase.
- They are going to keep doing this at the pace that's available to their development staff, which doesn't seem like fast enough for you.
- People love fluff
- This is just unreasonable, they're going to do as much as possible within the limitations they have.
That's never been the case. It's more like 1 year where 8 dungeons are viable. Rather than 3 months where 2 are viable here. In the end, it's the same # of dungeons.
You're gonna be waiting a while since there are three of them.
Yes it is because you live in your own little bubble. Overworld content has to be have limited rewards because if the rewards are really good people will fight over it and only a very small percentage of people will win. All the people who lose constantly would rather that content get instanced so they have a shot at it.
I'm out in the overworld nearly every day between treasure maps, beastmen dailies and hunt bills. they should do more with all of those but i don't think they need to drastically add new systems to the overworld that will alienate other players.
But they really need to change itemization to make those more worthwhile.

I'm not advocating an end to fluff. Im not an idiot, I realize this would chase a lot of people off. I just hate that fluff feels like its in the driver seat with this game right now. You see it said all the time "Glamour is the end game"...Well I for one hate that. While I struggle to see how people find dress up and mindless pets so motivating, I dont advocate doing away with it. Every event though is just a fate grind for fluff. Costumes, pets, or mounts that dont run any faster or do anything different than the dozens of other mounts already in the game simply dont motivate me to play.Revamped Itemization
