Just use IVs people! They're super cheap and can even get em for free from the ARR beast tribes. All that nonsense about "wasting gil" is just laziness and being bad.

If it's not DoH or DoL gear, I don't really care about what materia offers. :/ For DoHs, materia is *essential* to be able to craft the higher tier stuff.
That and combat gear gets obsoleted so quickly in this game it barely even feels like worth investing in, when you can't just take the materia back out.
The materia melder NPCs are of zero consequence to me because I can meld anything I want myself.
Wouldn't just using IVs make you look pathetic to endgamers because they won't be "good enough with those terribad melds?" Then you call them lazy for not having any Vs. Your overall logic cancels your suggestion out.
As ilvl raises are probably pretty much over now till the expansion I'll eventually stick some materia in my gear.
Wasn't much point before.
I meld my blm main, just for the epeen.
Slaped some STR into my drk's jewelries, because logical.
My healer who was in i220 for the past 6 months? Why would i bother? Weak gears with meld is still weak.
Frankly, I'd be more interested in melding my combat jobs if materias weren't ignored 90% of the game. That's the biggest problem really.
Where did I call anyone lazy for not having Vs? I called you all lazy for not putting ANY materia at all in there. You're missing stats that you could have for a few minutes of your time worth of dailies. You are making assumptions in order to justify not wanting to put ANY effort at all.
Yeah, I hate how the game's economy is designed that way. They need to implement more ways for battle-jobs to take money back from the crafters. All the tradable items from battle content are worth like 1 gil in the market. It's stupid. I throw them away all the time.Because I'm gaining more utility from the money I can make selling the materia than I can make slotting it.
Game economy is set up to shift money from battle-jobs to crafters and from there to gatherers. As someone who hates both crafting and gathering and can't sell Creator Savage runs or something, even as little as 50k would be worth more to me than 12 crit on an item. The only materia I'm even willing to slot is the free T4 materia from beast tribes, because those don't even sell high. And even there...I don't really do that content anymore, so I'd have to go out of my way to get them, which I often don't feel like.
For anyone that says they don't have gil: meld IVs or IIIs.
For anyone that says they will replace the gear tomorrow? meld Is or IIs.
From my experience people I see without melds in DF are usually rarely above average.
The excuses from the non-melders in this thread just keep coming.
Personally I love melded gear cause it's easy to get rich selling Carbon IV's and V's.
