Where did you hear THAT? o_O Last thing I heard was that they reassured us that overmelding on raid gear is NOT gonna become a thing again...
Because that would probably be the one thing that would actually make me quit again.
Overmelding as a necessity for endgame turned me away from 1.x, and an overuse of RNG in general from ARR.
I don't need this "Oh hey, maaaybeeee you'll get lucky, but spend all your lifetime and money on it first" bullsh*t.
Seriously? I can't actually place where I heard it. :-/ I'll try and see if I can find it though.Where did you hear THAT? o_O Last thing I heard was that they reassured us that overmelding on raid gear is NOT gonna become a thing again...

I'm not a rich player and on any given week I might have 2-3 million saved up from selling tomestone mats on the marketboard. But I do at least try with Materia Melds on my main Job that I play. I will use the Grade V if I have enough (but only on fully upgraded gear) so I tend to put Grade IV materia in my gear instead. There's only a 3 stat point difference between IV and V and I can make that up with HQ food.
Just realized you may be talking about scrip gear -> crafting / gathering. Yeah, I didn't mean that gear when I said scrip, I meant tome. Allowing melds on the actual scrip / craft / gather gear would be a major mistake with how everything is currently laid out.

It's not necessarily the healers fault if you die to unavoidable damage. it is quite often your fault (maybe not you personally) if you die to unavoidable damage. If I died due to my bad positioning then I highly doubt I would've survived even with Vit melds. If I'm not getting healed after unavoidable damage then that is not my burden and the healer needs to pick up their game, have had many a time where I've been marked and not been healed for a good 10 seconds before dying to an unavoidable AoE.
Again it's very situational anyway and the other option is 100% useful 100% of the time.
I can't tell you how many time's I've thrown up a succor to shield the party from incoming raid wide damage and found that one guy out of it's range and ends up dying. or thrown out an indomnibility after raid wide damage like hell wind and again that 1 guy is out of range and doesn't get healed and dies moments later, if you stray to far from the healer it's your fault not theirs if you then die.
not saying it's never the healers fault, but it's certainly wrong to place the burden on them all the time.
Oh it is when I have a habit of stacking after mechanics to make things easier to heal. You can't place the blame on me when you have zero idea of how I play and just have evidence in the form of "well I run across dps that [insert random situation here] so you must be one of those." Yes I do blame them for it, I know when I make mistakes.
You are just explaining fundamental things to me like I don't already know them.
We do by positioning and using debuffs, MP/TP regen blah blah. So am I carrying healers because I do that? By your logic I certainly am.
I ain't reducing my overall damage (which again I use all of the time) because some people struggle to keep up every now and again. I think you are failing to see the point I'm trying to make despite me now stating it 3 times.

I've seen countless real examples where someone would've died, but was kept alive by a few hundreds HP, would it be because of Weakness, vuln stacks, avoidable damage, being badly positionned to receive an AoE heal, etc.
You, on the other hand, seems to have absolutly no experience regarding these situations. So, I don't really know why you'd argue about it other than for the sake of arguing.
Having VIT IV on the right side instead of Ctr/SS IV both on skilled and average players can be life saving more often than you think. Especially if DPS checks aren't too demanding, like all the fights in 3.4.
...
Whatever the case, my main point was to say that a VIT IV is better than an empty materia slot no matter how you look at it.
