All I really want to do with it is use the screen as a monitor and play the game on my control pad. I'm not interested in turning my head to look around. I want it for crafting and harvesting. I read somewhere that it has cinematic mode which allows you to play games and use the VR as the monitor. I was just curious about whether Square Enix had to patch the game first for it to recognise the VR. From what I've read, it should work with all games in the manner I intend to use it - as a screen.

Well, I know 1.0 had stereoscopic functionality. Used it a few times myself.
It would probably be as difficult as activating another camera at a set distance from the first. Yeah the double rendering would hurt framerate, but then again, so does higher graphic settings in general.
Also, 2D effect tricks would always render at the same distance.

There's a "theatre mode" in PSVR.
