I'm Camp Masked Guy Is Ilberd for sure. It's either him or some completely new character but I don't know why he would be masked if it wasn't Ilberd.

For the same reason everyone who isn't Ilberd is wearing a mask. Funny thing is, just because the masked guy is new to us, he might not be new to everyone else. He is hiding his looks from the crowd, not the player.
Also, Ysayle was introduced in 2.4 so this is the right time to get us aquainted with a new anti-hero/villain/anti-villain/hero for the pre expansion + early expansion storyline.

That's if they want the story to be as repetitive as the patch cycle currently. Just because content releases are predictable doesn't mean the story has to be. I'd rather not be able to go like "Oh it's the final patch of the expansion time for a betrayal and revelation of new race" every time >.> I'm not opposed to having a new character but getting a new Ysayle-like character just because this is 3.4 is not a great idea to me.

2.4 also introduced Moenbryda, so he could just as easily be new character who will immediately die in 2.5. FOREVER.

I'm still waiting for G'raha Tia's name to be spoken by an NPC post 2.5. We've gotten more continuity for Doga and Unei. (He and Moen need TT cards, too.)

And yes I know her entire arch is reinforcing the idea that no one is guiltless in war and her sacrifice benefitted the cause of forging peace. I just can't get over her manaically laughing as she brought down the barrier over Ishgard and that she really didn't consider the fact that the raging dragons wouldn't differentiate soldier verses innocent children.

I just don't find her to be half as admirable as the story, post her death, makes her out to be. I feel like she died verses facing the consequences, and is that really martydom?

FFXIV is still not quite as edgy as it wants to be. Far better to believe that every death was an absolute necessity, and the perfect atonement for all the problems they caused, than acknowledge that, sometimes. people can die for a cause (even deliberately choose it!) and still leave so much of what only they could have accomplished in life undone.

But that's kind of my personal pet peeve. This isn't 1988 anymore.

A fair point. Then again, him being a new Ysayle type character would be the least predictable move as everyone beside me seems convinced that the masked guy is Ilberd. Of course when I say "like Ysayle" I don't mean that her entire arc should be copied. As I mentioned he could be anything from a hero to a straight up villain. Hell, he could be the main villain of 3.0. We are pretty short on cool villains. An odd situation for a final fantasy game.

That could also occur yes. But if he's the new Moenbryda, that still gives us: not-Ilberd.

It would be predictable if he was Ilberd, yes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We need to resolve the Ilberd thing at some point. He's still running around out there somewhere and I won't be comfortable until he's dealt with.

(I'm a big Raubahn/Nanamo fan so the fact his betrayal nearly took out both of them makes me want him really dead >.>)
