You have problem with the death, not with the dps. So it's logical to search for fix in the healing department to avoid the effect being exploited for dps gain.
If healing % does not work for you, you should seek an additional effect that would work similarly to Bloodbath. Getting healed through hitting the mob.
The main reason why the Party Finder is not working for the harder content and so many groups disband after few wipes is caused by the players who ignore the comments.
Getting to the phase XYZ once does not mean you are ready to join parties to do XYZ.
Parties should spend most of the time doing the phase that is written in the comment not trying to get there.
As a Main DRK myself the best way to give sort out LD is to give it a +% heal increases. Not Damage increase with 0% MP cost.
I mostly use LD but only if the shit is about to hit the fan.
If both my healers are dead it might as well be a wipe anyway.
If I pop LD and I get a +50% damage increases with -100% MP cost then I would use it purely for DPS. Turn off Grit, let the PLD/WAR Tank then use LD for insane damage which would kinda make Grit being used in a way the it shouldn't be used. It's a Tank oh shit skill! Not DPS gain.
Holmgang lasts for 6 seconds. If you don't get healed when the buff runs out and you are down to 1 hp, the next hit will kill you.
Living dead lasts for 10 seconds, and the walking dead effect another 10. If you don't get healed before the timer runs out, you die.
Seems fairly balanced already. You get a longer buff duration at the cost of you dying automatically if the timer runs out. If no one heals you and you are down to 1hp anyway, what's the difference?
My only problem with it is that PLD and WAR don't have a healing prerequisite and can sustain themselves with Clemency and Equilibrium whereas the DRK is entirely reliant on healer support and has nothing in their internal kit to help them out. And if the healer is out of commission it's GG no rematch for the DRK.
Indeed, it would be great...except that, if you're not tanking, you're not taking damage, then LD doesn't activate, and since you're not under Walking Dead status, you won't receive the damage boost and mp reduction...If I pop LD and I get a +50% damage increases with -100% MP cost then I would use it purely for DPS. It's still a very bizarre idea...
A WAR can easily heal itself back to enough HP to survive the next hit. Besides, if someone provoke (or Cover) you after Holmgang wears off, you won't die. Living Dead is the only skill that can still kill you even if the mob dies during WD.
If you don't get "healed for at least the same amount that your maximum HP", not just "healed". Pretty big difference.

If you give LD 50% dmg boost "intended" to allow the drk to heal back to full hp, people will just coordinate with their healers to use it as an offensive cd for more dps while still relying on outside heals to avoid the death mechanic lol. As said before, that'd create more balance issues than it fixes.
Well I don't have to MT to Die, there is lots of other ways to trigger WD besides MT. Just don't dodge AOE's or purposely trigger mines and stuff like that.Indeed, it would be great...except that, if you're not tanking, you're not taking damage, then LD doesn't activate, and since you're not under Walking Dead status, you won't receive the damage boost and mp reduction...

So, while not tanking, your plan is to step into every AoE until you take the risk of dying, just so that you could gain 10s of damage boost, while putting a lot of stress on your healers who should have probably done more damage than you if he didn't have to monitor your HP in case of unavoidable damagen, while still being focused on keeping the real tank alive ?
Have you considered...playing a DPS instead ?
After some thought honestly the best way to do LD is instead of flat out dying, just put the drk into brink of death, avoidable if healed to max before WD is over. Not only does it make the most sense as entering a corporeal state, and then coming back to life.
