I like doing those on patch day. Trying to figure it out together is loads of fun. Being a burden to others is not.

Of course it really IS best to talk to them in these cases. Their response will tell if they are beyond hope or not. I have grouped up with people who totally knew what job quests were but they didn't care.

You might be right about PoD. Of course it would be a simple matter to include: But you won't get job abilties unless you do the level 30 quest to unlock them.
    Hopefully 3.4 will include it.
Maybe i didn't understand correctly but I got the impression that the guy only told them he was first time when Sciwolf asked him why he can't do something as basic as dodging AoE. (Which to be fair should only be an excuse if you are first time to video games and this is your first day.)

This is ridiculous. I think it's more shameful that you couldn't take 30 seconds to explain cutter's cry. It's simple to do so.
I agree. I also look at their overall information to see what other chars they have and at what levels that helps me understand how "fresh" they are either as a player or on that character. If I see 3-4 lvl 60 jobs then they are just being stupid if I see that they are lvling the one they are on I will try and help by explaining. Sometimes it works and some it doesn't, when it doesn't I just think MMO type "pugs rule!!" in chat and never say another word. Who cares let him die.

I don't know, as soon as you turn in your level 30 class quest, the guild leader or receptionist NPC will pop up with a new quest that shows you how to unlock the job for your class before you even accept it.

Duty Finder is the RNG of RNG; that my friends say I have the worst luck. 3 runs in a row on Sunday (or was it Monday) that I had Tanks and DPS geared a little low in Great Gubal Library. One PLD was in ARR raid gear (Syrcus Tower, some Ironworks, Dreadwyrm Shield max ilvl130 gear). Two DPS were max i130 gear with mostly gear you can get in Dusk Vigil. Another MCH -knew- he had poor accessories by having -THREE (3)- i38/i39 accessories but gloated over having Midan Casting and Healer accessories as well as the i240 Torrent Gun. When I asked him about the accessories, "will craft i220 soon"

That doesn't help the people who are currently partied with you?!

Anyone who is still a starter class past level 40 is just woefully ignorant and refuses to listen to others, I believe. No real hope for them.

I guess this was more on Chimera and if I remember correctly it doesn't have much of the red aoe markers. Yes it tells you on the screen the very first time that it's eye changed colour after that you have to watch the chat log or watch the mob. If the new player is waiting for the next message to pop up on screen then yes there will be a problem.

as a healer I cannot afford to look up youtube dungeon guides when going in blind

With that said, i would always nicely inquire to the player and ask if he needs any help or advice. It's the mother in me...i see no stupid players. Only folks who haven't learn the mechanic quite yet.

If I recall correctly, Chimera has the Dragon's Breath frontal cone aoe indicator, Ram's breath frontal, and Ram's Keeper circle ice aoe indicator. I don't remember if there is a tail swipe cleave and aoe marker but I believe there is. Its fire breath attack and voices don't really have indicators of how far or close you need to be. If the dragoon is that new it's possible he was standing in the front a lot like some melee... seem to really enjoy.

This response is indicative of why new players have a hard time. Did you ask them? Did you talk to them? Yes, -this- dragoon showed some bad skills and there's no real excuse for when the game tells you to do job quests but it's possible they don't understand how much they are doing themselves a disservice. They might be new to the MMO scene. There's no hope because of vets like you who don't bother.

Didn't know a single boss fight. Died 3 times during the chimera fight. His excuse? "first run!"

Now I know that there some new players who actually do look up basic dungeon tactics before queueing and I know that people make mistakes (I make plenty of mistakes myself). But when someone obviously does not give enough crap to look up their class or a basic dungeon run. Why would me or anyone else want them to get carried to 60 and continue doing the same thing?
This mentality is so horrible and toxic. No wonder new players have such a hard time.
