You guys are so focused in wanting a two handed dps or even a sword dps in general that you forget that Samurai is and always has been Parry and Counter focused, which means Tank, which is where i would like Samurai to be.

If any sword type dps is to be added, please, a Fencer or even Red Mage with rapiers, even i would be happy with just Fencer, it makes more sense than Samurai.

But Samurais always were archers on a horse with a katana for melee combat D:

FFXI Samurai was designed to be a tank and ended up being a DPS, and NIN was designed to be a DPS and ended up being a tank.

Yoshi-P already said that was looking for a 2h tank, and decided DRK as tank, so SAM will probably be a DPS.

Still, it can be another 2h tank, with a diferent weapon and a diferent tanking style, remember that in 4.0 they probably will add another tank dps and healer. although would be nice to see a tank with another type of weapon, there isn't one that would fit, unless you go with beastmaster and that is pet controling... which i do not think it fits the tank role.

And when you said it was designed to be a tank, why do you think that is? It's because in Final Fantasy in general, Samurais are Tanks, to put it as a dps you need to redesign it heavily, and move away from the original idea of a Samurai. And they can use a bow as a non equipable weapon, think of it as a the ranged enmity skill. Like bards, they have a harp which they use for a certain amount of skills, it would not stop a Samurai from using a bow.

... No. The only version that is counter attack heavy is the Swordmaster in Bravely Default. Zeninage/Giltoss (throw money for massive damage), Shiradori/Blade Grasp (an evasion boost/parry chance) and Iainuki/Oblivion/Shin-Zantetsu (all target instant kill) are the most commonly recurring abilities for the Samurai.

Recurring abilities are one thing, but role and stats wise, Samurai have always been more of a parry-counter class with high counter damage but equally high evasion and parry. And not to mention tactics samurai which is basically a support class.

No. I had to look up the Samurai's appearance in all FF games before I posted that to make certain. Zeninage/Giltoss, Shiradori/Blade Grasp and "Iai" Instant kill abilities(single and multi-target) are the most commonly reoccurring abilities for the job. The Samurai is often one of the most devastating Heavy Frontliners along side the Dragoon because it has exclusive access to the slightly weaker but higher crit rate Katanas.

The Swordmaster of Bravely Default and Bravely Second is the only time the Samurai has focused on devastating Counter Attacks.

    No.

In FFT Shirahadori is an absolute evasion skill, basically broken OP evasion that can get as high as 97% chance to evade any physical attackGiltoss is always a high damage skill but since it wouldn`t be aplicable to FFXIV doesn`t have a say in this discussion.
In FFXII Samurai has a high crit rate yes, but also is a high evasion off-tank.
The grand dad of the Samurai class is the Swordmaster from Tactic's Ogre, high evasion tank class with counter damage capabilities.

Even if you want to consider some of the main series part of the "job" like cyan from FFVI or Sauron from X as a "samurai". They are broken OP as characters by their own writing, as a class, the only instances worth to check are:

    -FFV: DPSish.
    -FFT: Support.
    -FFXII: Off-tank and DPSish.
    -FFXI: lol.
-Tactics Ogre: Off-tank and brutal counter damage. (out damages anything with counters...)
    -Bravely Default: DPSish.

If we get SAM our way, it will probably be like WAR, high HP tank with "m8 u fkn wut" burst damage when needed.

FFXII's Katana's might have fairly high Evasion but the only way you are getting Counters is through the Genji equipment or Accessories. The Samurai License board focused more on boosting damage (because Katanas did damage based on both Strength and Magic) by increasing Magic with Mystic Armors.

Your list also leaves out the Samurai Dresssphere from FFX-2 which has 2 Instant kill attacks (one single, one all target) and no counters and the Parivir/Yojimbo from FFTA2 which also has 2 instant kill attacks one counter. For some reason added a class from Tactics Ogre, a series only tangentially related to Final Fantasy, to try and support your Counter obsession.

FFV: Heavy Armor, High attack damage from Katanas, Zeninage, Shiradori granted Evasion chance, all target Instant kill
FFVI: Heavy Armor, High attack damage from charged abilities, one prepped Counter, one all target Instant Kill.
FFT: Heavy Armor, 7 short ranged AoE attacks, 1 short ranged AoE heal, 2 short ranged AoE buff abilities that apply 2 buffs at the same time, one Counter triggered by being knocked to critical HP, one anti-melee (glitched was triggered by all physical attacks) evasion skill.
FFX: Auron's theme was Samurai but his grid section was mostly Knight abilities (i.e. Covers/Guards and Breaks a la FFT Knight)
FFXI: Evasion through 3rd Eye and Countered attack through Seigan. Other abilities focused on two handed Weapon skills and triggering elemental skill chains.
FFX-2: Starts with Zeninage, Zantetsu (single target instant kill), and Mirror of Equity (a Minus Strike). higher evasion than most dress spheres. Could get Shin-Zantetsu (all target instant kill) and Hayate which boosted Evasion and applied Haste.
FFXII-IJS: Could only use Katanas (High combo rate, Good evasion) mostly limited to Mystic armor. Could only counter attack when equipped with Genji helm or Battle harness. Zeninage was one of its few abilities.
FFTA2: Parivir/Yojimbo use Elemental Attacks that inflicted various status effects and a Critical hit based instant kill attack. Had a crit rate boosting support and reaction ability that countered standard attacks.
Bravely Default/Second: Swordmaster has 4 prepped counter attacks and a high normal counter rate.

my samurais in tactics only get hit by magic, sometimes. Blade grasp and 100 bravery make you dodge everything in that iteration, its sick lol

Lion war got it nerfed by only having max 97 bravery, so NPC always had minimun chance of 3%... Broken as f**k. Again, is the game with Orlendau so... LEL.
