The Rising Event! 1.0 Experience

This thread made me hop into the archive for a while today
For those who are interested in the "live" feelings people had at the time, here are some links:

• At first, it all seemed ridiculous...
• Most people were totally into it, had fun, pieced every part together, were amazed, sad, desperate and just generally full of emotions
• By far not everyone liked it though
• I forgot how much of a mess the final hours were..
• ...but when the final cutscene played, all was forgiven and many tears were shed.
• And after all was over, the players looked back on what they had experienced up until that point and thanked the devs for the amazing end

It's obvious that some FF fans enjoyed 1.0, with the pictures and captions portraying how people felt along the way.

I didn't come from FF, but from an MMO background. WoW, Rift, Aion and so on - and it just goes to show how different experiences can give different outlooks on things.
I did play 1.0 as I was looking for a new MMO, and honestly I couldn't believe how simply awful the interface and other pretty significant aspects where compared to other current games.

I had real reservations about trying the game again with ARR, thinking you've bitten me once - more fool me if you get me again.
But...
For me, they had turned the game into the best MMO on the market - and it still is.

Now it's not perfect. Neither am I, which I stupidly sometimes forget when giving opinions.
But FFXIV ARR is my game, and I have nothing but admiration for the way the development team faced up to the situation and all the work they did.
Who'd have thought that when I uninstalled 1.0 swearing that I'd never play another SE MMO again.............

Dang, makes me sad I wasn't able to play 1.0. I knew that the Calamity was the lore for why 1.0 went away and the origin of 2.0, but I didn't realize so much of it was actually part of the game in 1.0.

I'm supremely jealous of players that have the legacy tattoo, and I hope SE never makes it available to players like me that didn't play 1.0. You guys deserve to have that to yourselves.

My best moment of my last days of 1.0 was during the insane waves of level ?? mobs spawning in Ul'dah was. I was standing in the adventurer's guild until some guy starts running outside and then accidentaly pulled a mass of Chimeras, it was both hilarious and scary xD

OH GOD...that would terrify me if I saw that spawned in Ul'dah back in 1.0. I just remember Magitek, Nael Van Darnus, and Imperial soldiers running amuck there, along with the occasional chimera.

The HD that I had a lot of my 1.0 CS and screenshots saved on crashed and burned a little over a year ago. I only managed to save a few, but this thread had me digging them up and reliving them. Once upon a time I had hundreds of 1.x screenies. Chione sure has been through a lot!

Like getting arrested for the heinous crime of Wandering Minstrel Appreciation...


And riding through Limsa as the sky bled...


And ogling 1.0 Cid...


She also had her fair share of skirmishes in Ul'dah's streets.






I may have lost a lot of the photographic evidence, but 1.0 and it's ending I'll never forget. I'll also forever mourn the loss of Cid's 1.0 look. Maybe one day he'll take Bigg's advice and shave. :3

Yes, it was slow...and it has flaws. But for me, it would have been more interesting to fix the flaws without remaking the whole game to feel like any other MMO out there.

Oh I do agree. I thoroughly enjoyed v1 and I miss it dearly.
I also liked the gameplay for what it was, but it just struck me as being much slower while watching again recently.

Anyway, here are a few more pictures from before the end.

A panorama of Coerthas from near the entrance to Dzemael Darkhold during the aurora weather phase. This was truly beautiful!




Most of us couldn't get to Mor Dhona for the battle at Carteneau Flats, so we made our stand and defended Ul'dah which was being attacked by Chimeras. Remember being able to ride our chocobos inside the cities?






Even though I think we all knew it was hopeless, we charged ahead and fought on.






And then I watched in awe as Dalamud fell from the sky.

I'm sad that I missed this part of the game. I think it would be awesome if they managed to do something like it again.
