Buying items should be instant because, unless you want to be heavily involved in the economy, you should be able to get what you need and then go do fun stuff rather than get bogged down in crappy poorly implemented systems.

And leveling should be quick because unless you really like killing hundreds of the same monster over and over again for hours upon end, you should be able to level up quickly then go do fun stuff rather than get bogged down in boring, mindless exp grinds.
