    That's more of what I was getting at (although obviously that's theory over solid figures), the numbers were being thrown around in various places, I should've referenced them. The risk of failure getting 5 (remember now, it goes beyond three) is pretty high.

    The game is balanced for ppl having one gear in each item. if it was easy to get 2 or 3, the game would be easier than it already is.

    I really don't like this system :/ I'm fine with a risk vs reward system, but it's infuriating when you blow up 10 shields, all of which had a 27-30% success rate for the 2nd slot, then someone else slots it first try.

    Random number generator stuff with very little skill involved is not what I want from this game, it's why I quit Aion.

    seems to me this whole thread is the exact opposite of this thread
    1 Materia makes any crafted item better than any NM/Raid/Dungeon

    its balance you should not get 3 or 4 slot materia easy. if you do then the ppl that argue that raid gear is useless are right.

    trust in the fact SE is trying to make the game balanced for both combat and craft

    Seriously it's just as I'd like it. But then, I'm from RO - and those really high failure rates on upgrade steps past the first one or two just make sense to me. Crafters can literally make rare items. I loved that idea in the first few pages, of crafters that get a max'd out piece of gear being able to tinker with the name.

    So.. yeah keep it as is, I say. It's one of the things I actually happen to like about the patch.

    Here's the materia system in a nut shell. You got three pieces on a gear piece, YOU ARE A GOD. Most people are okay with one, and only a small percentage of people will be risky enough to try two till the system is well known.
