Well people should stop eating penalties as they do with eating AOEs, then we wouldn't have this problem in the first place.

I just had a different issue with the penalty. I joined an AV run in progress, 15 minutes in still on the first boss. We wiped to boss, I left and didn't get a penalty. The party was full when I went to click the leave button, although it's possible someone hit leave half a second before me and ate the penalty.
The person you replaced was probably one to eat penalty.
Well it's your raid persons fault. He joined a DF and left it because it was almost raid time, now he screwed other folks so now he has to take the heat.A penalty was a penalty before, but it didn't stop you from raiding. And now it does! Now its more like a penalty +1.
Was there a popular demand for an expanded penalty, or was it just an oversight? Are they going to keep sneaking extras on the 'things you can't do with a penalty' list?
And don't forget, not all penalties are as deserved as others. For example, I've seen someone get auto AFK kicked (and therefore given a 30 min penalty) while they were waiting for a disconnected player to return! Is that fair? :/
Do what KitFox does and make sure no one does anything and prepare 30mins before raid time.
There, problem solved.
This isn't even what happened! Why must people assume the worst case scenario?
The player in question was doing an EX roulette with 2 others from our raid group, plus 1 random person. They can normally get through these in approx 15 mins, and had what they thought was plenty of time before raid. However, part of the way through he had to go AFK to deal with an incident at home, and couldn't get back within 5 minutes; enough time to be automatically kicked.
So it was just an accident, not some malicious attempt to screw over as many people as possible before raid!
Anyway, if the majority of people like the system how it stands now, then its fine with me. Its just something else raid groups will have to take into consideration from now on.
The auto kick is at 10 minutes of no activity. If he's gone for that long in a duty that normally takes 15, he deserved the penalty. This isn't even what happened! Why must people assume the worst case scenario?

Oooh, shiney...
Now, see, information like THIS is vital to have in your OP. Not sure it would change the outcome, but that would definitely help people not assume your teammate ditched a team of randoms in DF for raid and expect to get in unpunished. Details, my friend, are important. This isn't even what happened! Why must people assume the worst case scenario?

A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

If you don't have time for the entire timer, don't queue. This isn't even what happened! Why must people assume the worst case scenario?

I'm sure its just 5 minutes before kick... I wasn't in the instance myself but, we were speaking to him before he left and it certainly didn't 'seem' as much as 10 minutes. I dunno, could be wrong...
