While it is true what others have said, that if they would stand close to each other the moment the ability/mechanic gets cast, the distance they need to travel is shorter. However that's just the explanation for dealing with that kind of mechanic. Matter of fact is this and to answer your question. No matter if they stand close or even far away from each other, the moment that chain connects 2 players, means they still have to move or it wont break the chain. Now it's up to the players to decide during the run how they want to handle it, a) as stated above, stay close to each other and you have to move to the opposite direction of the area to break it, or b) stay as far away from others, and then just move a tick to the left or right to break the chain that way. Either way, standing in one place no matter what option they choose, won't break that chain. Neither will if just the dps/tank runs away and the healer for example decided to stay in place.

To your other question, even so you can tank the boss right where he stands, especially since he returns to the middle every time anyway to cast his holy bs, whatever that move is called lol, I would suggest playing it by ear. Meaning, throughout the run as a tank you get a pretty good understanding of your groups abilities, if you saw that they couldn't dodge the boss mechanics prior from the earlier ones, or even on trash, then yes tank the last boss right at the entrance (purple line). That gives the group more time to dodge the horses and fires, however if your group has like most DF groups, those kind of people that can't be bothered to dodge any mechanic, than you're screwed regardless. Hope you can find some groups and finish leveling your tank. GL.

It really is up to the healer and DPS to move when they're chained, but with both, they don't seem to like to follow mechanics. Especially if they are "overgeared" for the content and think they can cheese it. When I heal, I always make it a habit to run because I can't ever count on the DPS to, especially if they are casters or a melee with positionals (monks usually because dem Greased Lightning stacks).

With the horses, you could try tanking him closer to the entrance. It could maybe give people more time to move out of the way of them. But again, that relies on the other actually paying attention. Do you have any FC friends or other friends to run it with you? Having friends who follow mechanics always helps make things smoother. ^^

This fight is a bit difficult for healers but if some of the other three people fail to do the mechanics, it'll be extremely hard for the healer. I've seen so many people blaming the healer and keep trying to kick them even though they're not the problem.

Running as a tank doesn't even hurt the group DPS at that low of a level AND you can farm more silver chests for weapons.

Queue times are short to since it just takes 4 ppl of any class to start one.
Well, I might just end up having to do that now.

I was having a discussion with a friend yesterday about the vast majority of players in this game and I realized that I have no idea what players are thinking when mechanics are happening. I feel like they are removed from their temporary comfort zone and forced to make a quick decision and they freeze or do what they "normally" do causing bad things to happen. A good example of this (well one that made me think of it) is in Nid EX when he does hot wing and hot tail and some other mechanics. Sometimes Nidhogg will position weirdly or crooked causing people to get hit by mechanics because they are used to "if I run to A its supposed to be safe" rather than paying attention to whats going on and adjusting accordingly. It is like they are just going through some scripted motions expecting everything to go right 100% of the time.

    IDK, a lot of times when everything starts going wonky, I ask myself "I got out of that...why couldn't you?" -_-;;

Fights are scripted so not surprising to see scripted response with predictable results when they get hit with a curveball.

Vault is by far the worst dungeon in D/F for groups being incompetant morons. I dread to even *attempt* to heal or tank that god awful place, and I probably wont; I'll afk-quest via dailies when it comes to it...

As a healer, I find this fight to be one of the toughest, if not the toughest, dungeon boss fight in the game.
My first time going through it, even preparing and knowing the mechanics, we still wiped 3 times.
Thankfully, my group was super kind and told me not to worry and we'd just try it again.

Anyway, every time I get this fight in Duty Finder I worry about the last boss.
If even one person doesn't follow mechanics, it makes healing so difficult.

If you want to do this fight with random group, then you could say before the boss "Does everyone know the mechanics of this fight?"
If you get a "no" or "I forgot", you can explain it.

If people say "yes" but still wipe, you can remind them. "Just a reminder, people with Holy Chain need to move away from each other ASAP."

Or, you can make a macro explaining some of the most important mechanics and use it at the beginning of the fight.

You'd be surprised how many people forget the mechanics of a boss.
One time, in Snowcloak, the tank and 1 DPS forgot the you are NOT supposed to kill the spriggans at the 2nd boss. They were killing every single spriggan and hitting any snowballs away from the boss.
In the end, we killed the boss the old fashioned way.

Turns out both hadn't been in Snowcloak in months and had completely forgotten what to do.

Anyway, if you are still having trouble, your best chance at success is to do The Vault with a premade group, like from an LS or FC.
