Try out the beast men stronghold with your raptor party setup and see how far you can go

clearly missing the point of this thread. Beastman strongholds are for endgame AFTER the mindless grind is over.
This post is about leveling a job 1-50 being a completely un-tactical mindless spam-fest in large part due to the bright idea that fighting multiple weak mobs at once to get chains was a good idea.
this essentially nullifies the use of materia as well since you can just be gimped and spam attack raptors from 30-50 making materia a waste of money till end game.
Mew!

Or... you could fight multiple strong mobs at once and chain, Every grind party I've been in since patch has been fighting mobs ~10 levels above the average of the party. Fights are actually a bit harder that way and do require strategy. The devs have given us freedom of choice, and we are only 5 days past the patch, in time, we will find out which is better, chaining stronger mobs for more exp/kill or chaining mobs just a few levels higher, for less exp/kill but faster kills. It's too early to make any judgment calls yet.

this point is invalid since chaining weaker mobs can get you 30-35 in a day, 35-40 in a day, and 40-50 in a few days.Or... you could fight multiple strong mobs at once and chain, Every grind party I've been in since patch has been fighting mobs ~10 levels above the average of the party. Why make something difficult when it can be easymoded?
And thats the point. they keep easymoding this game.

If history is any indicator, I'm not surprised that people are chaining the hell out of weaker mobs. Same thing happened in XI with birds. People will always gravitate to the best xp/hour and ignore everything else. It's pretty apparent that SE doesn't care about leveling right now.
From a PR perspective, the faster people get through "boring" grind, then the faster they can get to see all the real content SE has been working on. Gaming media outlets are going to cover 1.9, and turning the game away from mindless leve/craft grind into the a game where the writer has a chance to see Ifrit, do GC quests, get into the instances much easier, see more of the storyline etc. is pretty smart imo. It may not have been their intention, but it is a positive side effect.
Edit: Learning to play your job by leveling is one of the points people like to throw around when this type of thing comes up. Leveling gives a player a very shallow understanding of game mechanics and how to play their class. Anybody can press hotkeys to kill a stationary mob, so going to the "skill" argument is a bad one.
You learn what your abilities do and what they're capable of as you level, but it doesn't take a long time to figure that out. Do I really need to spend three months pressing the same skills over and over to be proficient? In endgame, things like group coordination, composition, communication, and movement are the larger contributors to success.
Just because XP mobs die easy now does not mean people who are leveling will have no idea how to play their class.

In all games there are easymodes and hardmodes, you keep saying the game is a mindless grind, but you are sticking to the old exp methods with the new systems that have been coming in the old methods will not be efficient any more.
You also said the beastmen strong holds were for endgame, when a party of rank 40s can camp at the gates and chain the beastmen for exp and believe me that is alot faster than raptors, the game is changing you need to change as well or you will be sticking with the old methods forever.

if the player chooses to fight stuff that's easier, instead of more challenging mobs who's making the game easy mode? the player or the developer?

100% Agree with OP. But then after my own thread over the same exact subject, we already knew that.
