try gearing them all at the same time so that you can switch forth and back a couple times a day. We are talking endgame gear here, not green/whites from expert dungeons. Tell me how that works out for ya :d

and who mentioned yokai watch weapons? right nobody. point is, it's easier and faster to make some alts and gear them via savage or just lore tokens, than trying that on one character. But let's take your example, it's also easier and faster to do the yokai watch weapons on different characters, because the first weapon is only 7 legacy tokens.

I got asked this when I joined a FC with six alts. :P For me personally it's a couple of things. I'm just used to it, for one. Another is that I'm the type of person that just CANNOT stick to one appearance. With so many options it's hard to choose just one. And rather than pay tons of money for Fantasias, it's easier to make alts. And since I'm so used to it it's nothing really hard for me to do.

Gosh yeah, I'd be fine doing a 1000 Fates if it meant I was done with it on my alts too, but like doing it all over and over is just absolutely hell.

To answer Celef and response to Amariel, I jive pretty well with her opinions. I also like roleplaying, and rather than use a fantasia and spend 30 bucks to play a "new character" an alt works well enough. I wish the game wasn't so alt unfriendly though. I've also got personal reasons as I wanna try to get two Roegadyn alts to level 60 as I feel kinda guilty having only a Miqo'te at 60 for when the census roles around.

Gender locked glamour, role playing, ability to get double the items for endgame (whether Savage or Mhachi Matter), and the fact that it's an option to begin with so why not?
