I regularly chain 5 on my level 30 archer and get very high exp rates solo. It's quite easy, I don't equip any odd spells that I wouldn't have pre patch. I kill mobs no more than 2 levels higher than me, and try to stick exclusively to equal level or +1 mobs. I would rather lose a chain than attack a mob +3 levels, and when you throw in +2 level mobs you risk the higher end of your chain too.

If you pace yourself (think FFXI, if you played it), watch your chain timer, and make sure you have cooldowns for the higher end of the chain, you'll be able to push to chain 4 for sure, and after you get the hang of it, chain 5. In addition, don't spam your TP attacks until the mob is around 35-40% hp. Once a mob gets to that point, unload your TP and kill it quickly, this will enable you to take significantly less damage. Use excess chain time to stand still and regen as much hp/mp as you can before moving on to your next target. If you do all of this properly, you will get about 1200 exp solo every chain, with little to no real downtime.

Leveling solo isn't hard at all, and powerleveling isn't the only option. This same exact thing (minus the powerleveling) happened at 1.18 patch for mages, and we made it through just fine. Now it's melee's turn. You just need to adapt.
