I mean, personally I think it's stupid, but eh.

I also don't really understand the decision... as I really don't think Yokai Watch is remotely popular with the majority of players. YW is a (young) children's anime and game. It really doesn't have that many fans over elementary school age (and I say this as someone who lives and works in Japan). Even among adult anime fans, YW is not popular. So... in that sense I don't get it.

And I do understand OP's feelings about it being immersion breaking. Sure, you can claim the other "silly" stuff in the game does the same thing, but it really doesn't. An established, famous brand suddenly appearing is not the same as seeing someone dressed in a random silly outfit. I mean, wouldn't you feel it was immersion breaking if McDonalds themed stuff was put in the game?

If you don't have a problem with it that's fine, but I don't think OP's feelings are unreasonable.

No. Who is to say that a culinary NPC in this game could not come up with a new meal called a burger (made from pre-existing in game ingredients) and that NPC's family name just happens to be McDonald. It doesn't break immersion because it is possible within the setting and so are these items from this event. SE could easily write such in to the lore and lore itself is always evolving so this event merely forms part of that lore.

Themed weapons...already have such things in this world, themed minions...already have such things, weird mounts...also had such for a long time prior to this event and this is just the latest weird mount. As for the quests they just need to be written within the confines of what could/might exist within the in game world. The anniversary event was more immersion breaking than this by a million miles when you were teleported to the offices of the developers, talking to them about the game and seeing concept art posters for it on the walls plus a developer riding a fake unicorn while playing the game itself on an in game tv screen.

The immersion excuse is a subjective one which holds very little if any water because of how subjective it is but given past events and how much content in this game already could fall into that category, it is a bit late to decide that is not part of what forms this game. If anything the OP is breaking their own immersion by applying real world perspective on what is essentially a character that has no knowledge of our world. From an in game character perspective none of what is being done with this event is impossible. Hell, before our character got off the dang chocobo cart at the start of the game the character probably thought a giant talking crystal was impossible and same with a million other things that has happened to that character.

The OP says if do not agree with her then we are not real FF fans, I could quite easily turn around and say if you are against this event you are not a true FF14 fan because these events are part of the makeup of this game's development and has been for quite some time. I assume the OP would also consider chat between players which often is not game related or in keeping with the ideology of the Warrior of Light and/or events surrounding his/her story is immersion breaking too but I am betting she/her just ignores such chat and likewise the OP should just ignore this event if it is not his/her cup of tea.

...and it would then have nothing to do with McDonalds the company, congrats. What if they set up McDonalds restaurants, just how they look in real life, and put one in each major city so you'd have to pass it every time you teleported there. How about that? Or do you really have no limits and think ANYTHING is ok?

Obviously, people have different ideas about what they consider breaks immersion. So I think it's ridiculous for you to tell people "well THIS SHOULD break your immersion." Because what do you know about them? For me, the aniversary event was a cool nod to the game and its developers, it also took place AWAY from the main game and disappeared completely once the event was over. Weird mounts and clothes, I have no problem with.

For me, I don't really like the YW collab because I don't think it meshes well and it stands out weirdly. YW = elementary school kids to me, sorry. Probably if the monsters had a different style of design it would be ok for me, but I don't think they fit in.

You make a lot of assumptions.

Yea oddly enough, it would be almost the exact same thing as having Grimace as a mount, or seeing the golden arches in Ul'dah/Limsa/Gridania

While I already stated that I find the mount really ugly and lore-breaking, Youkai Watch is pretty popular in Japan. If only JP datacenter got this event we would have the GD english forums spammed with threads saying about how wrong that is. And the majority of the playerbase is japanese.

    - Yokai Watch is very popular in Japan, so popular that their merchandise outsold those of Pokemon in 2014 and 2015.
    - Just like most toys/tv shows etc made for children (Pokemon, Digimon, My Little Pony), they have a huge adult following.
    - Yokai Watch is not popular in the NA/EU/AUS region, so by promoting this game via FFXIV, they might reach those Pokemon, Digimon fans who want to try something else.
    - FFXIV was promoted via a Yokai Watch game last year or was it 2014, it was in of those years. The chocobo and moogles are also present in their latest game.
    - Level 5, the company that develops the Yokai Watch games, creates the Dragon Quest games for Square Enix.
    - Yoshida is friends with creator (I think he was the creator) of Yokai Watch.
So yeah, I don't really see a problem with the event, but I do fear that in the future we can get more and more stuff like that and end up like, idk, Tera.
