FFXV will surely have a 4K version for the newest consoles, at least 4K texture packs, SE could then mod FFXV into FFXIV and we would have the latest in graphics from that game although that would be a drastic approach!...

I'm definitely sure that if FFXIV development team wanted they could remake the whole game in 4K, at the very least add a 4K texture pack, they remade it once then do it again, it might take a while though!...

I don't know if there's a more recent quote, but the one I recall reading about was more of a 'we won't drop ps3 support before 4.0' and not a we will drop it then.
