I'm also hoping it merges back into the MSQ, so I don't know why you're disagreeing with me when we said essentially the same thing.
Then again, Nero showed up after LotA and we thought for sure CT was going to turn relevant later. Instead, you can leave Cid and the Ironworks crew standing around St. Coinach's with Nero stuck in the Void and plod merrily through Heavensward until you unlock Alexander, eventually resulting in two Cids with two different outfits in two places at once.
I was talking about the original unlock (the "hard" version). It requires the starting quest of the 3.0 EX primals chain, so I'm assuming it comes form the same NPC.

I'm disagreeing with you because the source says that the MSQ quest has been split up compared to 2.X. The Crystal Tower was a side story. This, however, is very likely one of the parallel MSQ paths and, therefore, I believe this won't be relegated to the sidelines like the CT.
Extreme Mode will still be on its own, of course. Definitely just added fluff, not even worthy of "side-story."

Yoshida has been known to exaggerate, especially considering pre-ARR-release he was talking about CT and BCoB as if they were important parts of the post-game Main Scenario (and Final Coil has an FMV, for kupo's sake). When he says that, I'm pretty sure he means that the sort of things expanded on in the MSQ in 2.X (as "required" content) are in their own little worlds now, like the Doman Braves or the Scholasticate.
I believe the Triad will end up in the "Elder Primal Quests" section of "Chronicles of a New Era." Along with the Crystal Tower, the Binding Coil, Alexander, Shadow of Mhach, and yes, the Hard Mode primal quests. The EX unlocks mean Unukulhai won't end up fizzling out quietly like certain others either way, but if he does show up in the MSQ at all it will be as a job-assured commuter like Urianger.
Just so we're clear, I want to be proven wrong, but I'm going to set the bar way low on this one.

I, too, suspect that the Triad isn't going to be as influential to the story as they were back in FF6. Especially since 4.0 is apparently not going to be tied directly to 3.0's story. Which makes me wonder what, exactly, they'll do with Ishgard and the surrounding areas moving forward...

Either the war will be nicely wrapped up with Ishgard slowly recovering, or the war will officially end but there will still be skirmishes. Either way, I expect that it will a bit open ended. Something along the lines of "we defeated Nidhogg but Ishgard is still recovering" (Whether we will defeat him and to what extent is a matter for another time).
The same sort of thing happened with the 2.0 storyline: we halted the invasion of the Garleans and the GC leaders declared the beginning of the Seventh Astral Era, but there are still problems in each city-state. Some of which *cough*Ul'Dah*cough* escalated rather spectacularly during the course of 2.1-2.5.
Hopefully we will revisited older areas later on in the patch cycle. If only for side stories.

Any news on the book? I guess we'll be able to buy it on Las Vegas Fanfest or something, but since we didn't hear anything for a long time...
