That's why I tho you were not attacking the tank's target, it was not what trying to seem cool, please understand. ^^;
You may offer some advices to these tanks instead of asking for advice for you as you are already very experienced.

It don't matter what target someone attacks. Sure people mark stuff, but if you're playing blm (ARR content) or SMN or even brd, that's a multi target class.

With that mentioned, blm now is a very strong single target class, however the only time I've seen them pull hate, is if the tank pulls, flash/overpower and goes afk. I've seen tanks mark something as 1,2, 3 and then attack 4 themselves, but not because they wanna hit every single target to make sure they have hate on it, no because they can't read their own signs lol.

3 Years ago we stopped marking shit, and every time I see it nowadays in duty finder it's gonna be ignored. If the tank is doing his job, granted nobody attacks something before he/she even pulls, then there should be no issues with hate what so ever. If you are still one of those tanks that marks and then blame the dps for not attacking your precious nr.1, please re roll and stop with your advice.

But, if you read OP carefully again, the situation was not what you mentioned a lazy tank.
Op said the tank did everything, even no mentioned shield oath etc but in this case i suppose it was up, and the NIN also helped with this. Moreover, the healer was stand on their side.
So can you give some advise to OP as he wishes?

Any tank above 220 ilv worth their salt should not be losing aggro to you even without QS. I have every tank at 60 at 230 ilv+ and the only time I have to pay attention to threat is when I have a geared/skilled SMN doing 3-4k on pulls. Boss wise only my WAR can easily keep up with MNK/BLM dps in deliverance after my opener. I can see DRK/PLD losing aggro much easier on single targets if they sit in their dps stance.

TLDR: Your tanks are the equivalent to the dps I get in 230+ gear only doing 400 dps.
