I bought this game when it came out and quit a few months later, but after hearing about this patch i reinstalled a while ago to try it out.

I like the changes so far compared to the original release, but I've got to say there is one heck of a learning curve; especially if your completely fresh to this game with no foreknowledge. Its a good start, but not enough is explained which is probably leaving alot of people lost if they haven't stayed current with all the updates.

I leafed through the update lists and hit the guilds first thing to learn how to craft my own gear so I got the hang of things quick, but I doubt alot of new players are going to even know where to find that info, if they even know about it. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Strange, my brother got the game 2 days before the patch and he's still liking the game as much as before.

That's because he is playing, not ranting on a forum about how it isn't the game he designed back in school using Harry Potter figures and UHU Glue.

I reallly hope that Square-Enix listen to this. Otherwise, the game won't be attractive and no new players would want to join in. Honestly, I am really disapointed and it shows that Square-Enix doesn't know how to make mmo's.

I was at a party last night and we were talking about gaming. I mentionned to a friend about FF14 and he was like saying that the game is a lost cause. Anyway, you get point.....

I work with a huge collection of gaming nerds (myself included) and we have a massive selection of tastes, but every time this game is mentioned, it's like someone made an inappropriate joke about something current in the news. It is regarded as a black mark on gamings history, and currently the only people to enjoy it are those already playing it.

Getting new blood into this game will either require a huge relaunch, rebranding, renaming or offering money, cause all joking aside, this game flopped like an old mans dinkle on release, and will more than likely never recover.

FFXIV was originally designed to allow you to grow vertically from 1-50 with any class on your own time ,solo or party. Now FFXIV will only allow you to remain on 1 class 1-50 through party play. Getting through solo play requires you to work on yourself in a horizontal fashion grinding multiple jobs at once and unlocking spells such as cure & sacrifice for your melee classes. Single classing requires full time banding pretty much at this point.

This. This is probably the hardest obstacle SE will have to overcome. For almost everyone that doesn't already play it or camp the lodestone for news, the game is still that "one Final Fantasy so bad it got a 4.0 from Gamespot". Even a massive patch like 1.19 only had mentions like "Chocobos are finally coming" on pretty much everywhere that is not massively.com. Or this.

If you DON'T think that was 'effective' solo, you never tried it. I often leveled faster than dunes parties myself. And of course it's not as good as a good party, are you retarded?
Sometimes people don't have time to organize a party or just feel like grinding it out solo for a bit, it was possible to level and do so at a decent rate without having to organize anything, how exactly is that not effective? Because it's not the absolute best? Please.

Effective and most effective are not the same thing, and hell... due to the nature of the game at the time often you would be able to be more effective soloing by virtue of the fact that you didn't have to wait nor did you have to worry about getting bad players who could slow you down far more than anything. Remember those parties back in the day where you came out with negative exp because your party sucked more than a Thread Leech? I sure do.

After level 23, I found that I got EXP so much faster after this patch.

Parties with guys at my level in Nanawa, leves + leve bonus, links and EXP chains, my God, I feel like playing this game again. I might actually take it to 50!~

I have been considering doing a Youtube channel for a while, based around the first 60 minutes of games. Basically it's going to be for comparing new games of a select genre, to the current market leading games of the same genre, so in this case, I would place FFXIV side-by-side in real time with World of Warcraft, and compare the 2 as they progress through the first 60 minutes of gameplay (obviously cut down a little but I do have unlimited time on my Youtube vids as I created it on Youtubes launch, which means it still is under the original terms of having no limit on video length).

For example keeping tallies of what the game has told you to do, shown you, taught you, what you have seen, number of unique monsters encountered in this time, areas you have been ushered into, quest variance, and other bits of random stuff. So it would be "20 minutes in, and WoW has shown me 4 unique quest archetypes, Final Fantasy XIV has shown me 2, but I did get a more comprehensive tutorial to this point in FF than I have in WoW, and we have seen wolves, kobolds, spiders and zombies in WoW, and Marmots, Funguar, Opo-Opo's, Crabs, Spriggans, Moles etc in FFXIV.

Would also plan on scoring each element and giving them a total at the end, based on raw experience.

Think it would be interesting to see how the 2 compare within this key time period, as this is when a player would more than likely make a lot of decisions towards their like or disliking of a game.

Do you guys think this would be interesting or a total waste of time
