You'll be fine whether you choose to do it or not then, but I would recommend doing it in dungeons at least merely because you'll be pretty bored in that type of content otherwise.

Everyone wants something different from their healer. Heals are always a must but some random people you will encounter will call you garbage if you aren't dpsing like the other dps. Don't get disgruntled by the assholes you encounter in DF. No matter how good you are, no matter how fast you can cast a Cure 3 or a Medica to mitigate raid-wide damage, it will always NOT be enough for some people. Don't let the trolls discourage you. You do your job and if you're having fun and nobody is dying for no reason, then you're doing an awesome job.

Yeah, no,... if you don't at LEAST pop clerics stance for Dollhouse to help break out the 2 transformed DPS...you are bad.

I mean seriously, between the healer and the tank, the healer does a LOT more damage than the tank. If you just sat there healing the tank while the tank broke them free all by himself...you are bad.

Also, for people starting out with Clerics stance, the secret isn't to think of it as something you turn on when you want to damage, but rather something you turn off when you want to heal. Specifically, because there's no cooldown to cancel Cleric's stance while there's a couple second cooldown to activate. The most dangerous position to be in is immediately after activating clerics stance when you need to heal since you'll be locked out of canceling it for ~5 secs. It's safer to already be in clerics stance before the fight even begins so that you have no issue canceling it when you need to. So it's safer to just be in cleric's stance and cancel it when you need to heal rather than not have it on and activate it when you want to DPS. (admittedly, this is a bit easier for Scholar since our "Regen" can be cast before we even enter the dungeon unlike Whm and Ast that has to cast theirs after the fight has started).

I rarely ever DPS as a healer and I never have problems finding a group. Not to mention, if you care that much about what random people think about you, you need to re-think your priorities. Random guy says "you don't DPS, you're bad" or any personal opinion they use to justify trolling, I reply "cool, bro!"

See what I mean? Randoms calling you bad because you don't play the way they want you to. I pay my monthly fee for this game, I'll play however I want, just like the OP should. Stop worrying about what elitist pseudo-know-it-alls think about you. If you want to do it, do it. If you don't want to, don't. I can confirm that what the above poster said is incorrect... that if you don't, you will not get a reputation. That's just someone trying to intimidate you into playing the way they think you should play. I enjoy the game as I play and I don't have any issues. The only time that someone has ever commented on me not DPSing was from a DPS who was dishing out very low DPS.

Aaaaaaand here we have the worst answer ever.............

See those other people who get lumped with you in DF when you are doing nothing but standing around twiddling your thumbs when there is no healing to be done and you are on full mana because "you play how you want to", well those people get to kick you for difference in playstyle, because they also pay for this game, and dont have to waste their money dealing with lazy people.

Its a two way thing. Never use the argument "i pay for it so i play how i like" since that argument is the biggest pile of nonsense ever.

I still didn't DPS and we completed the boss with 0 deaths.
Healers arent "required" to DPS, but why wouldn't you want to help your party by doing it?

Ex: the first pull of antitower is 3 mobs. You *might* need to cast 1 heal on sch every 30 seconds that fight lasts.

I would argue that not dpsing in this scenario makes you bad. Assuming a 2.5sec gcd and not counting ogcd skills, you have around 12 opportunities every 30 seconds to take an action that would benefit the party. Of the 12, you spend 1, and waste 11.

Newsflash! I've never been kicked out of a group.

So yeah, not a bad answer at all. It's the bottom-line truth. What gives you the right to tell me or anyone else how we have to play?

We could both give dozens of scenarios where we think it could/should be done. It's a personal choice. People need to stop trying to make people feel bad for choosing not to.

    Look at this rationally.
You have 12 gcds available. The worst possible healer performance in the game is wasting all 12 gcd, you wasted 11. 1 gcd separates you from the worst possible performance. You are absolutely allowed to do that and I wouldn't say anything about it, but considering that performance to be anything short of bad.... idk man, that is a bit of a stretch

Healers who idle for 30 seconds while the tank stays full from a regen or shield should be forced to run every dungeon with two DDs who each do nothing but put up a single DoT every 30 seconds, who also paid their subscriptions and want to be obstinate when someone gives them good advice on how to be a contributing member of the party.

I'm looking at it realistically. That's your metric for performance. My metric for performance is the bottom line, that a healer is a healer. What separates you from the worst performance is if you cannot keep your party alive and cannot react. No matter how you try and sweeten it up, it's a personal choice if they want to DPS or not. If I don't play the way you want, that's your problem. I'm sorry if that sounds rude but it's the truth. I'm playing a game to have fun and as long as I'm doing that, i'm satisfied. All the troll comments about "you'll be labeled as bad" or "you won't find a group" are just trying to intimidate someone into playing how someone else feels they should. I seriously care ZERO about what randoms think and neither should the OP.
