Oh, ridiculously high population server with players that are ripping each other off on two or three servers. I'll agree with one point. They should have figured out a way to add more wards to your server. I will never agree to changing the terms of the rules that were set for gameplay to satisfy overpopulated worlds.

Even though it's not possible I would love to see instanced housing in the worlds that are wishing all of this on the low pop servers. Leave us out of the fight.

Syrehn I like your opinion for the most part though. I might not agree with it all but I respect it if that's worth anything.
While I can see where you're coming from you might want to be careful about admitting to account sharing; it's against the TOS.

That being said your case would be a prime example of where, if they ever allowed property sharing between alts, you could both utilize 1 residence. You could divide the decorating up depending on the size of lot purchased. Maybe each take a floor?

The issue with instanced housing is that instances still require SE to save data so it wouldn't necessarily solve the problem the way people think. It essentially equal's out to "more wards" anyway since it's all about their data storage architecture.

Thanks for the heads up and keeping it civil. What's the purpose of having multiple characters then? Very odd. Help with the quotes?

While you can have multiple characters, nothing wrong with that, I don't personally feel this game is geared towards alts per say. Considering how they allow us to do everything on 1 character and restrict things like mail between alts, etc.

To me alts would be used for different aesthetic purposes or raid lockouts (1 person that runs in 2 raid groups perhaps).

When I think of levelling all the jobs again (cross class) on another character as an alt I literally die inside. @_@

I have 1 alt for crafting specialists. My friend covers 3 of the specs and my main and my alt cover the other 5. I have a 2nd alt on reserve if I get bored and decide I want access to all specs.

    Also, RP. So I hear.

A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

One would think, but they have no trouble offering up an FC room to every player/alt. If they instead used that system to offer personal housing space (inside & out, not apartments) in various areas I think that'd work out nicely. I'm fond of the idea of snagging one of the floating islands in the sea of clouds as a plot and being able to move it around to a locale of your choosing (choose a skybox basically). Doing so won't require it to keep an entire ward loaded up into memory.

Yes they do allow a limited version of instanced housing via FC rooms, but again, it's limited so it doesn't require as much data storage as a full house with 100+ items. While it does still use storage it's not as much as creating full new wards/sub-wards with individual houses that need to have all their item placement data saved; probably via SAN Storage (which is quite costly).

There is no way that they'll replace an entire housing infrastructure, that's wishful thinking, at best, those who want instanced housing are going to have to contend with w/e the apartment style complex is going to be like; that's probably as close as you're going to get to that type of system.

It will be interesting to see what the apartments are like when they launch as compared to our current wards.

My biggest problem with instanced housing is the lack of neighbors to chat with and my fondness of wandering the wards, seeing what people have come up with. I like seeing that creativity, and can't tell you how many great FC rooms there are out there because I rarely wander that far. If someone has great curb appeal then I go inside, provided it's unlocked.

I do understand that plopping it down somewhere for your own pleasure of creating something for yourself and hopefully being able to garden. How would you share it with the world though, or do you not really care if anyone else sees it?

I'd be happy to do everything I do for housing in an instance. My house is a place with constant and decent lighting, free from distractions for crafting (I'll even hide the chat window when doing top tier crafting). It's also a garden, home base with retainer bell and company chest, near the market board.

The neighbors are nice, but if I could have all of that without the open world ward, I'd be fine with it. Until that happens, I'll hang on to my house.

Fair enough. I haven't seen a neighbor in my neck of the woods in ages. I hate it. The MB is right in front of my house too and I do most of my crafting in the front yard or the roof. Still, no one around. Waiting for that countdown to start again so maybe I can either upgrade or someone will buy a plot that gets auto demolished and I have someone to chat with outside my house.

I don't even understand how you can say this with all the weekly limits on stuff. Sure you could decide an alt is too much work for you (though it's laughably easy tbh) but getting extra maps, freedom to concentrate on several jobs (I have a character for each role and gear up the alts just as fast as my main where you'd be months behind), and of course things like mhachi matter...basically on 2 alts I'm getting/saving the easiest mil a week on just that alone.
Alts aren't for everyone depending on playtime for sure but you can't look at this game and go "I don't see the benefit."

edit: and as far as the difficulty of levelling crossclass skills some jobs have it easier than others. SMN is essentially set with archer lv 4 and thm 15, 26 for swiftcast. Take 10 minutes to do novice hall and get a ring that gives you 30% exp till lv 31. Use Out to Sea leve @ costa for fast exp as well. This game was a joke to level your first job back in 2.0 and it's only become exponentially easier since. I nearly got 3 levels on a job in 1 roulette with that ring.
