    Had a friend who got insulted and threaten by another guy just because she was in a relationship with an australian. :/
    And no she never even did anything to him or even say anything.
    She reported for weeks but that guy just keep coming at her with his own character and once blacklist he goes with alt characters.
    He further goes by telling other players how shitty she was. Since nothing is been done, she prays that one day he stop with the abuse.
    How long can anyone stand that kind of person that keeps haunting you? If that person has multiple reports and enough evidence to support that, than he/she should be banned.
    Why wanna encourage this kind of people to come to the game and create such a toxicity environment?

    I know how annoying it is.But when you think about it they are getting mad over a game....People forget that games are meant to be fun.So lol at you for getting mad over something silly.I just change my chat to battle so I dont see any bitching going on.Imagine how it would be hanging around those kinds of people in person.Would not be pleasant.

    In a perfect world.Toxic players would get their characters deleted.They dont deserve to play.

    Was the U.S. Navy involved? Maybe the elite fighting force known as the SEALs?

    IMHO, reporting players for simple insults is a waste of GM time. Leave them be, so they can help with more serious things.
    Did you miss the part where OP said the person created a character on the OP's server just to continue the unwelcome messages? What exactly is your definition of harassment, if that's not?

    Although it was a different game I had a similar thing once. Beat a guy in a RTS match, afterwards he sent me a message over Games for Windows Live filled with vulgarities and telling me to get cancer and die.

    So I messaged back to him. I told him:

    "You wish was already fulfilled. My Uncle got cancer and before I could even have the opportunity of saying goodbye to him he died. Be careful what you wish for, as Karma will always come back to collect."

    He proceeded to shut up after that. Never heard from him ever again.

    The big question is
    Was your report thorough and detailed
    You can send tons of reports about one guy just telling them "this guy said this to me today" and something might not happen because you were not thorough enough.

    Im not saying that is exactly what happened but do make sure when you send a report to add things like the date, time, server, exactly what happened, and things like screencaps can be very helpful as well.
    Im only saying this because Ive seen plenty of people complain about someone not being banned after they sent in lazy reports

    Honestly having nephews and neices myself, if i saw one of them doing anything remotely like this, I would give to them worse that what they where giving out online. The problem with the internet and the ease of access is there is no monitoring system. Child asks to play something and is left to his or her own devices, a parent can't monitor the kids 100% of the time but you would expect the founder of the game to be looking into this.

    I know with the vast number of players and the amount of staff at hand, things can get swept under the carpet because too little noise is being made about a said character, Myself, I am too old in the tooth to care what a spotty 12 year old kid that thinks because he's sitting in his bedroom with all his cool things around him can cause "harmless" abuse to someone else in the world because he doesn't know them or care to know them and in the end he was only joking.
    That Joke can end someones life, we've all heard it, and obviously it is harassment and or bullying.

    The thing is and what the Op is trying to make you realise is that this could be you, now you could are probably saying now "Pfft.. if anyone tried that.." and your probably right, but what if.. I mean what if in 10, maybe 20 years your own kid is playing their next big thing of an MMO, your downstairs and they're trying to do something they actively enjoy but are being taunted and bullied, your not made aware, the gaming company is not doing anything and your child is having suicidal thoughts or even becoming depressed because one person... 1 measly person who doesn't know your kid is making your own flesh and blood, that person you would do anything for to protect feel worthless, like they don't matter.

    I draw the line on any form of abuse online, Modern life makes you need it more than ever, banking shopping, watching tv, now even socialising.

    If you have no form of online authority too lean back on when things are becoming too much, what do you have. you can't say "well if you can't take it you shouldn't play it" or "don't comment if you cant take the criticism" its not that easy anymore and people i agree do have opinions of their own and I'm respectful of that. i would just move on and leave it be.

    but back to the point, sorry about my ramblings. I do agree that in FFXIV mordian gaol needs to be Widley used alot more, SE has the chat log capabilities to find out whats said and reporting such matters should be avtivly investigated with accounts that are flagged regularly being moved to the Gaol including alts. the hard part is player blocking its easy to create a new account with a new email and a VPN (if your IP has been blocked) and people do see Mordian Gaol as an achievement something to be proud of,

    3. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES
    In addition to the License Limitations, there are other activities that you are forbidden from doing in connection with the Game ("Prohibited Activities"). In its discretion, Square Enix may use a variety of methods to deal with violations of this User Agreement and the Prohibited Activities, including, but not limited to, any of the following:
    Issuing a warning;

    Placing a character in a "virtual jail" for a specified period of time;
    Removing or deleting ill-gotten in-game items or currency;
    Temporarily suspending an account;
    Permanently terminating an account;
    Permanently banning your IP address, residential address, or credit card number;
    Asserting a lawsuit for breach of contract, copyright infringement, or other cause of action as may be applicable; and/or
    Seeking injunctive relief in any court or jurisdiction to prevent you from continuing such activity.

    In addition, Square Enix shall be entitled to terminate any FFXIV Service Account (immediately and without notice) of any User who (1) was previously suspended or terminated by Square Enix and who Square Enix believes (in its sole discretion) re-registered using different registration information in order to circumvent or bypass such suspension or termination, or (2) Square Enix believes (in its sole discretion, based upon any information available, including registration and account information) that such User is enabling or assisting another User to conduct any Prohibited Activities of any kind.
    Square Enix may update the list of Prohibited Activities at http://sqex.to/ffxiv.na.support at any time. The current Prohibited Activities are as follows:
    3.1 Sharing Account Information. You may not share your account or login information (such as your Square Enix ID and password) with anyone except your legal guardian, your minor child, or Square Enix. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and login information, even from your friends and family. If you violate this provision, you may unexpectedly lose access to your account to a third party without recourse against Square Enix. Square Enix will not be obliged to credit your Square Enix Account with Crysta or other points or awards, which may have been used by a third party as a result of the violation of this clause.
    3.2 Disruption. You may not in any way disrupt or interfere with the Game experience of other players, including the disruption of Square Enix's computers and servers.
    3.3 Profanity and Offensive Language. You may not use profanity or any language that a reasonable person would find offensive. The Game is for players aged 13 and older. You agree to behave accordingly.

    3.4 Impersonation. You may not impersonate any person or entity or fraudulently hold yourself out as a Square Enix employee, representative, or any other Square Enix-connected person or being affiliated with any such person or entity. This means you cannot log into someone else's account, or deceive or mislead other people as to your identity. For your own safety, we encourage users to safeguard their privacy, remain anonymous, and never give out personal information to other users.
    3.5 Naming Right. You may not use any name or other intellectual property belonging to Square Enix or any other third party in your use of the Game (for example, naming a character after a celebrity, company, product, or superhero).
    3.6 Any Illegal Activities. You may not conduct any illegal activities whatsoever in connection with the Game. This includes every illegal activity not specifically highlighted above, including without limitation gambling, defamation, harassment, and fraud.
    3.7 False Account Information. You may not provide Square Enix with false information during the registration process. Any inaccurate or non-current account information may make it impossible for Square Enix to provide you with notice.
    3.8 Chargebacks. You are authorizing all fees charged under this User Agreement until you properly deactivate your account. Therefore, you may not falsely notify your credit card or debit card provider that you did not authorize the automatic recurring charge. If you are using a parent's credit card, you must have their authorization for recurring billing.
    3.9 Non-Commercial Spamming/Spimming. You may not use (or abuse) the in-game chat and message services to harass other players.

    This being said, if SE was more active about what they say in the above terms of serice , people would think twice about doing it.

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
