FFXIV is constructed and maintained by SE. You agree to a Terms of Service when you sign up to the game. You pay them for a service that they consistently provide. You don't just check in once a month when you pay your sub fee, you effectively "live" on the FFXIV servers.

It's much more like you're eating pizza in a pizza restaurant, and another customer comes up to your table and starts yelling at you and knocking your food off the table. You can deal with that in different ways, but are you ultimately responsible for dealing with that abusive customer? Of course not. The management at that pizza restaurant would call the cops or intervene in some way and kick the abusive customer out.
