Most good tanks are already tanking in DPS stance in most of the situations, even with groups that run double WAR.

Often than not, raiders have more experience than you who have NEVER stepped into the most updated end-game contents (currently Midas Savage is where you are going to look at). So again, if you just want to spout opinions on threads that require you to analyze further, please stop embarassing yourself.

I'm curious to know what you're raiding on an ilvl 166 drk.

I tend to not agree with a lot of people who say something can only be done correctly one way.

It's funny because every time I see someone say that, they're trying to justify playing poorly. It reminds me of the thread made by a thm complaining about how the community was toxic because he kept getting kicked from dungeons for using sleep every pull and doing fire 1 > blizzard 1 > fire 1 > blizzard 1 so he wouldn't run out of mp.

The only time you should Plunge on pull is if it immediately follows Unmend and if the boss for whatever reason needs to be tanked exactly where he is.

It also helps for you pull from Unmend range. Getting in Unmend range before pull and using it from a standing start means your DPS can start running to the boss immediately when they see the your animation start during the countdown. Any casters/ranged you have should be prepping their casts before you pull anyway, so Plunge really only makes a difference for you here since it won't benefit from the slashing debuff.

DRG and NIN also both have gap closers that have nothing to do with their DPS rotation.

That all being said, pulling with Plunge only is extremely bad form.


EDIT: Also, no matter what, on DRK you should be using some sort of oGCD between Unmend and your next GCD (which should be Scourge btw, not your PS combo... that comes after), usually its Dark Passenger (since it has some range to it), Low Blow, or Salted Earth, since none of those deal slashing damage.

That was the argument on that other thread and I agreed there is merit to using unmend rather than plunge. That there are instances were you want to move the boss to the middle or wherever and if you do have a melee strong group it helps them.I just disagreed with the sentiment that pulling with plunge ever is wrong when there are also situations were immobilizing the boss right away and facing it away right away is extremely important not just in the case of cleaves but also tank targeting aoe from the boss. In my experience the sooner the boss is holding still, the more predictable it's movements are, the better off the group is. And I plunge for trash all the time for the same reasons, though that aforementioned thread was talking about drk openers specifically.

1. Alts and multiclassing are a thing.
2. Sounds like he had good reason to be upset. Hard to learn if no one's willing to teach. When I started blm I thought consistently casting fire 3 was the best DPS. No one ever called me out for it, but I had to learn myself.

Oh, people were trying to teach him how to blm on the thread. They were even nice and respectful about it at first. But he just kept coming back saying there's nothing wrong with the way he's playing and when people started giving him numbers and facts to prove what he was doing was bad, he started calling everyone elitist jerks. But I guess that's usually how MMOs go.
