What I think would be good and still be masculine is to get some of the ornaments off that are useless like those metal pieces on the sleeves (for miqote), the useless leather belt wrapped around the torso (for au ra), and turtle neck and add or take off the shoulder protector (for roe)
I agree with that... but I am just using those sets as examples... the styles exist in the game already. We just need more like them (and as you said, with less ornamentation). I just want more chest options that don't go below the waist, don't have a bunch of nonsense dangly bits, and maybe shows a little skin without being full on bare chest. The miqo'te top is a good example. It's very swashbuckler-esque, short sleeved shirt with a leather vest, not bulky/puffy, and has enough details without being overdone. We just need more options like that which aren't class or race restricted.

I'd really love to see all the race specific outfits get proliferated to all races since it would open up some nice mix and match options.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

    I agree with you.

The sad story is that almost all garments are designed for female characters, and developers just made a few adjustments, if any, for the male characters cuz the idea is: "guys will mostly want to play females animation/chaeacters to please their eyes, and girls....well ...wouldn't they want to show skin cuz it is not their body. At least that is what the developers made me think they have in mind."

As I said, yes I want more pants in game but not just for casters. I want it for all classes, too. Only the race locked small clothes and hyur shorts have it decent design. There are so many things I would want the developers to adapt cuz they even show that females must have small clothing. That is not feminine that is just a stereo type idea to show off body parts.

I would want jackets, shirts, sport shoes, etc. Let's hope the game add more clothes that are realistic.

Has there been any fresh news regarding this? I know they're making a pretty big deal about the ability to put flowers in a character's hair in the upcoming patch but I do hope we get something to balance that out for those of us who play male characters that adhere to conventionally masculine dress codes.

To balance it out some new - decent - facial hair options for male characters would be pretty fair, I think. We're arguably already missing one due to the lack of Cid's beard - and hairstyle - coming with his outfit whilst Minfilia's outfit comes with an exclusive hairstyle. I would be very happy with more 'stubble' options, personally.

Masculinity is subjective and opinionated anyway, what you consider masculine another may not. So just saying masculine equivalent doesn't translate to anything. Especially when the developer is Japanese. Their idea of masculine and the american ideal for example is vastly different.

Considering facial hair masculine for example doesn't mean it is. Some see it that way, others see it as you just weren't able to shave and don't see facial hair as a form of being masculine. And on the flip side, facial hair options are not the same as an accessory.

I say we get a big ol' hippie beard with flowers in it.

The dictionary definition of 'masculine' is as follows:

'Having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with men.'

I'd say that facial hair qualifies. I don't like it much myself (outside of light stubble) but the purpose of this thread is - at least in part - to highlight the rather jarring gap between the amount of attention male characters get compared to female and androgynous characters.

If you want to put flowers in your male character's hair, that's great. It's largely irrelevant to the point of this thread, though. Plenty of people playing male characters don't want to do that, thus having more options that are stereo-typically 'masculine' isn't a bad thing at all.

Hahah, I gotta agree with you there. Keep in mind I've played since beta and started off as a male and played it for 2 years, then went female for few months then back to male. I went back to female recently from male au ra, probably gonna change back at some point. The reason I play female is because some of the gear looks cooler/better on the female and makes her look pretty badass, like a tomboy I guess. I'm not even that much into female outfits. But when it comes to jackets, shirts, sport shoes etc, that would be cool. If you ever played blade and soul they had that and I loved it.

While I like that, I feel like it conflicts a little too much with FFXIV's style.

I do want more glamour options that look casual and designed for male bodies though. The patch notes seemed to have some which made me excited.

I wish people wouldn't take "I want more masculine/more items designed for the men" as a slight to people who like the feminine items. It's just that a lot of them look kinda poor on the various male bodies. They're not designed to look good on them, particularly the Roegadyn. And it's not that they look feminine, but that they're designed for smaller/female bodies. Many of the feminine items look pretty alright on my miqo'te, but a Highlander or Roegadyn? They don't have the same body type and those clothes just don't sit well on them.

Yeah I agree with you, it has to somewhat work into how the game looks like. And yeah I agree with you on the rest. Some awesome jeans, jackets etc would been awesome! Would love that more than anything, some cool coats etc as well.

Either way a Facial option in customization isn't the same as a in game item created from a flower pot. Unless you're looking for something akin to the santa mustache the amount of work required to make the two and probably the data as well is very different.

I'm definitely for equal glamour options but honestly a facial hair option and a flower in game item are very different from each other.
