Speaking of Archeage - I loved the game. And I hate PvP. CRAZY I KNOW! But I found other things that I absolutely loved, like farming, and raising mounts, making music, and just exploring the beautiful world. But with the logic in this thread, I had absolutely no business playing the game since I hate PvP, which is the core of the game. MMOs have to be diverse since their players are diverse.
So you obviously found other aspects in the game to love to get over your hatred of PVP. Had you complained about the game being a PVP-focused sandbox and wanted to twist the game to be not PVP, then your argument could be used here. As it is, you are making a completely different point.

Everyone has the right to play the game, but to suggest that the game should change just to make you happy is wrong.

That upvote comment was glorious by the way. Some of us have a jerkface sense of humor. Get over it.

The point is I found things to enjoy in a heavy PvP game, just as I have found things to do in a game with loads of story. Let people do what they enjoy, and you will have a much happier player base.

All of this reminds me of another story-heavy MMO, XI. XI had a massive amount of story to go through, but the key thing is that it didn't force you to complete it all before you could participate in the latest end-game content.

I've come to the conclusion with XIV that they put so many caps and road blocks in the way because their actual content just cannot hold up. So hey, maybe you all are right and they should actually keep the MSQ requirement in place.

Who's to say they are an unhappy playerbase? You? Do you have statistics that say a great majority of players hate the game because it's lore focused? Be honest here because it seems like you're speaking for yourself here with a straw argument.

XI is also pretty decently old. Released in 2002 with several installments? FFXIV has barely scratched the surface, having been reborn with 1 new expansion. When it becomes a decade old, I wouldn't blame them for considering a shortcut jump option for newer players. But this is barely year 3 with a ways til expansion 2. I think people can handle this much story which barely amounts to a few hours if you skip everything.

XI only had a massive amount of story to go through in each of its expansions. CoP locked its endgame behind that story. RoZ locked its endgame behind the story. And XI didn't really have a "current endgame" model. All endgame stayed current.

But the thing is, you didn't have to complete all past MSQ items to get into Sea for example. You generally received access to the new event/end-game item early on in the story line. So if it suited you, you could just unlock it, and be done. You'd miss out on your rewards for completing the story line, but that was your choice.

I never said a majority of the player base is unhappy with the game. Stop putting words in my mouth. More options are always better than no options. Anyway, I'm checking out of this thread, gotta spend some quality time with that strawman! <3

And what specifically is this end game content you speak of?

Obviously a fancy way of saying glamour.

I'm curious if the reason for wanting to speed through the game is to get to end game raiding, specifically Midas Savage. I'm not sure why some people appear to be in such a rush. There is so much cool content along the way. I've run story 3 times personally given i have two alts in heavensward doing the latest content. Granted I didn't watch story the second and third time around and hit skip story for a part of it. The game is the story and there are lot of cool dungeons and more along the way.

I just don't quite understand this fascination for some to want to speed run it.

The grass is always greener on the other side and all that junk. People like to chase the metaphorical carrot at the end of the stick to get to the good stuff as fast as humanely possible. Once they're done with that (or in the case of savage, when their raid group splits up), they end up dumping the game anyway because they never enjoyed the ride to begin with. It's such a vicious cycle.

The story requirement to get into HW is a blessing as far as I am concerned, not just because I enjoy the story but because it keeps RMT and RMT bot armies out of HW zones and that alone makes it worth doing.
