Yeah, imagine a platformer game where you can't jump. Now imagine a racing game without cars. Why doesn't XIV have cars? They've been around since Amiga for God's sake! Why can't I control hundreds of units from a top perspective like in Command & Conquer? This game is so outdated.

Although to be fair every good action or rpg game in existence has jumping mechanics. Games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Demon's Souls and Resident Evil 5 come to mind. You just can't build a good game if there isn't jumping.

A sound argument, except for the fact that Metal Gear is a more of a strategy/shooter rpg, and RE5 is an over the shoulder shooter. Demons Souls didn't have a jump feature, but a instead had a dodge feature that let you leap backwards or roll out of the way. Given that most FF games had no jump feature, I can't complain too much about FFXIV's lack thereof, but we're also not living in the stone age either. Time to move on to a game where the term "Role Playing Game" actually involves being able to act in any method desired, similar to Elder Scrolls. What would really be great is if we could start using headsets like .hack//'s "The World" MMO where you actually feel like you're in the character's shoes and can act any way you please. I bet even in that case there will be people complaining about something lol.

Oh hell yes! Now I can clearly show you how irrelevant these games are compared to this thread. Even though there were instances where you would jump a gap in the enviroment, it wasn't really anything at all in the game. Do you seriously think the game would've been less enjoyable if Snake didn't just jump to the next ledge? That Chris Redfield didn't just hop a 1 foot gap between the roofs? Couldn't Chris mostly just climb up/down ladders to achieve the same goal?

Pulling up games that doesn't revolve around jumping to advance in the storyline doesn't help this argument. Maybe you should've said RE4. That had a lot more jumping that actually helped your topic. Hell Marior IS a better case to your argument.....Even though he also needed other perks such as Fire Flower, Racoon Suit, Yellow Cape, etc, etc.... You CAN build a good game without jumping. I think 500,000 FFXI subscribers would agree with me.

There's actually a few platforming parts of demon's souls, and even a way to get to Ostrava early using your roll to get over a wall, whereupon he praises you with "Nice jump"

but again these are games where the player typically doesnt feel that he needs a jump by design, the fact that people are asking one means that they failed in that respect.
