Naw, all you have to do is just equip the lv 1 maurauder axe and speak to the npc again.

where and which npc and i did look in the ab = auction board and found one but said i cant equip it but not sure if it is the weathered axe and if it was then idk why it is over 12k and that is ridiculous price

i meant to find one to get the lvl 1 item and i do not have it in my inventory unless i sold it and
btw im new to this vs other games i played and i know its different from other games

All of the Weathered weapons can be bought cheaply in the cities respective to the homes of each guild. So to buy the Weathered Marauder's Axe, you'd need to find the Weapon's merchant on the Lower Levels in Limsa in the markets, along Hawker's Alley and in the last section of stalls before the Arcanist's Guild as I recall.

The above people have it pretty well covered. If you accidently sold the axe, the weapon merchant in town should have a replacement for less then 100 gil. If you didnt accept the offer from the guild receptionist to get the axe in the first place, start there. But from the error message you shared, it sounds like you did finish with the receptionist but moved on and sold the axe without realizing it. No big deal, easy to fix.

There are some people who try to use the market board to profit on other peoples lack of in-game knowledge. Thats why you might have seen the level 1 axe(or something similar) for more then 100 times what the merchant sells it for. Those people suck, but dont let them ruin the game for you.
