That sounds really good actuallyWHAT IF they made you go into dungeons and fight bosses and get hit their with attacks at least once so you learn it. Your job/class quest is to run a dungeon in party finder and get smashed by a boss but you learned a new skill then you unleash it right there. New and innovative and very cool yes?
Go to Aurum Vale and defeat the x amount of Malboro's to learn bad breath
Question is where will we be able to learn missile from? A blue mage always needs a missile command, Praetorium perhaps or Castrum?

I just have to post this but... did anyone else just want to form an all BLU party so you could spam Leviathan with Flying Sardine? >.>;
The problem with BLU and RDM is that it would require Yoshi-P to go back and actually implement his idea for hybrid/support classes and add a new hybrid/support slot to the DF. I use the term "support" like RIFT does a person that can help on the DPS/Healing/buffing or a combination thereof. Whether Yoshi-P would change it to 1 tank 1 healer 1 support 1 dps or change it to 5 man parties, I don't know.
Many of the favorite abilities that BLU have make them hard to place in FFXIV. Does that mean they don't belong? No. People want BLU mages. People want RDM. They'd just have to get really creative on how the jobs were implemented.
What if, for example, the blue mage was given 0 cross class abilities. Instead, the Blue mage has a job specific hunting log that requires them to kill certain mobs for their abilities and then they can equip those abilities like normal cross class skills?
Perhaps job related skills could come at 20 (flame breath for killing Ifrit?) 35 (mighty guard for killing Titan?) and 45 (White Wind from Garuda?)

In my vision you don't "Defeat x amount of Malboro's" but rather actually get hit with bad breath from the final boss. Sorry healers - sucks to be you - but I got a dank new skill b0ss.
The reason why AST, DRK and MCH start at 30 is because technicality, all the jobs start at 30, the base classes start earlier an since there won't be any more classes I oubt that there would be a level 20 Blue Mage
Not sure how much of this post has been said (thread was TL;DR), but BLU could be implemented in the game. Weaponskills and other basic abilities would come through standard leveling, while beast skills would come from job quests with beast fights followed by cutscenes where your character either observes the skill used or the beast uses the skill against your character, ending with your character visualizing the attack and then performing it on their own.
Learn could either be something small like a "if the target uses an ability within X seconds, you can mimic that action" effect for a limited number of abilities, or it could be something larger like a slow-stacking debuff on a target that increases the damage the BLU increases to the target by some small percentage per stack, indicating that the BLU has "learned" about the target and can take advantage of weak points. Either way, it'd never be like how it is in past games because of how the game works.
Considering what they did to Dark Knight it's better to salt the earth and have low expectations then be disappointed. You are such an optimistic ray of sunshine, you've done nothing but beat the dev team down under the assumption everything will be butchered, cause apparently the definition of butchering has fallen off the face of the earth in this thread -____- I have never seen such negativity and pessimism.
The Blue Mage could have only a set number of spaces allotted for monster abilities, while using their own, original spells in their main hotbar. For the monster abilities, we could possibly collect them and stock up, kind of like how magic works in Final Fantasy 8.
I dunno, I've never actually played FF11, so I don't know much about Blue Mages, except that they learn abilities from enemies.

11 wasn't the only appearance of BLU. They were also in V, X and VII (I think, I know they were in the latter two) as well as Bravely Default and Bravely Second.
Now I have a question. Would BLU's flavor be persevered is the Job was merged with Beastmaster or a job centered on lycanthropy?
I don't know, of all the recurring jobs, I think Blue Mage might be best suited for a whimsical lethal joke class, given how eclectic their skills are. I think you're not being open-minded here.Blue Mage uses monster attacks. There is nothing cute or comical about Fire breath, Bubble Breath, Big Guard, Bad Breath, M-Missile, Lvl spells, Doom, Mind Blast, Death Claw, etc.
But knowing this dev team they would dumb down the class to make it a joke of what a Blue Mage is supposed to be.
I think FF9 had it, too, with Quina, but s/he was a weird case. I don't know what a Beastmaster does (typical hunter?), and I'm assuming lycanthropy is transformation into a ... were-creature of some sort?11 wasn't the only appearance of BLU. Actually, come to think, we don't have any jobs that revolve around transformations a la Druid from Diablo 2's expansion (or WoW). I think it'd be cool to play as a job that transforms.
