It a small blurb on a site most won't ever visit or even know exist. I would agree with you if they mentioned it on the store pages where person buys it form or on back of game case or even a mention on lodestone but it not.

No, really it isn't a small mention tucked away somewhere obscure. I don't know why you are so vehemently insisting it is. Perhaps we are talking about two different websites? I am referring to this one: Official Square Enix FFXIV Promotional Site
Scroll down and you will see 'Housing: Your own little slice of Eorzea' promoted alongside, Gathering, Crafting, Free Companies, The Gold Saucer and Glamour, all of which are freely available to every player (with the exception of housing, of course).
This isn't some tiny, long-forgotten website from pre-ARR days, it's the official promotional site for the game and the first one that came up when I did a search.
