This is getting silly, just create instanced housing already...

Keep the current system for those that value it, make it cost whatever fixed price you want, keep wards and just plop the house down on it, and charge a few extra dollars for the storage if it's hurting you. However, after seeing the 3.3 patch on housing, you're missing the problem. FFXIV's housing is a liability with half a dozen games now having far better and accessible housing systems. It's something most people play FFXIV in spite of or in ignorance of. Not 'because of', and that's a problem.

You need instanced housing. It opens up a LOT more options, and it will not only keep people occupied, but flower a whole other portion of the economy. I don't blame SE for wanting their housing to do something different, but it's definitely not doing it and it's costing them in appeal.

The point is, instanced housing scales with population and pays dividends. The current system is something I have to talk around to recruit new players to the game.

3.3 adds more plots, but that's not the end of the planned solutions.

3.4 patch adds apartment complexes to give homes to a larger number of people.

Also planned is the ability to move home, and a new residential district in Ishgard.

None of which is going to fix the problems. I'm sorry, but this isn't going to work.

I believe apartments have 512 homes each, so it should cover a large amount of demand from people who can afford a home but are seeing no availability yet. If they can do something to prevent rich people from buying many homes with one account (using alt characters and making dummy FCs) that would alleviate a lot of problems too.

If they increase the prices to the point where they reflect today's gil inflation, add a bunch of wards, and add an equal amount of isghard wards in a few patches then even on Balmung which is most likely the hardest server to get a house on will have houses for a long while, probably well into 4.x even by the most pessimistic of ideas. They just need to hike prices to the extreme. I know this isn't the popular option but it's the best one. Instanced housing is coming in the form of apartments but neighborhoods are a big part of housing. I love having neighbors and meeting random people. Instanced housing is a huge step backwards.

Its only instanced when you click the door, you would still have the wards and neighbors - alot more neighbors. The only difference is you and 100 other people have a house in the same spot.

Okay first, the majority of servers, have no housing. Hyperion has not had housing since a few months ... maybe 6 after "personal" housing was released which was when? Late 2013; early 2014?! LOL Also, you're right. Jacking up prices for a ONE time gil dump is not the answer.

For one, and I mentioned this in another thread about increasing the price, not EVERYONE has over a 100 million in gil or more. I have a decent amount that would afford me the chance to purchase a medium house but, if SE decides the best way to kill 2 birds with one stone is a massive gil dump, there will be a lot of players who will NOT be happy. Main reason? And people seem to forget this. After the failure of 1.0 this game changed from being a very hardcore group of former XI players to a "game we want to make for everyone." SE's words. Not mine. They made it more "casual" based. Well guess what? Casuals, who also want houses, don't HAVE that type of time to sink into crafting and gathering. At least not to the extent where I see players with over 500 mil in gil THEMSELVES! You also have players as was mentioned earlier in this post, who have more than 2,3,4 or even 5 houses! WTF?! WHY?! I know one player on Hyperion who literally posted on these forums a few months back, she's working on getting all 9 types of house! C'mon now! SE needs to fix THAT issue.

There's a ton of open plots on Mateus, it's just whether you're interested in paying $18 to get a plot now or hoping Square Enix doesn't jack up the price of housing.

I want neighbors... so come to Mateus. :P
Ummm ... you seem to forget that while spending 18 bucks is no big deal, to a degree, that server AKA World, is not in my time zone! LOL Sooo ... I spend 18$ to transfer. Lose 39 mil of gil I have busted my rear for to now be on a low pop server for a stinking house and now have NO ONE in my time zone to play with? Sorry. That's not how this issue gets resolved. It's not.

I'm sure there are equivalent EU and JP worlds with housing available. All it takes to check is to make a level 1 alt and scout The Goblet.

From what they've said 3.4's apartment don't sound any different to what you get with an FC room, just it's not tied to a Free Company. They said somewhere (live letter?) that apartments wouldn't be able to do gardening which adds more to it just sounding like a room in a house, just SE is your landlord, not your FC owner.

Might not even be able to go in the house... and it'll just ask you which room you want to go into when you click on the main door... but we shall see!

That really sucks. It'd be awesome to be able to go into an apartment complex and with all the apartment doors in the corridors and then you could click on your own door to go into your room, and then in the complex you could check your emails outside your door, maybe chat with neighbours...
