Its a way for them to keep progression consistent and limit the impact of RNG on people who don't play as often. I certainly don't want to go back to the days of 60% sucess max on armor/weapon recipes, .5% drop rates on gear, and rare mobs dropping the best gear that are only claimable by 1 person or group. I don't have that kind of time to dedicate to a game. Or the flexibility of being on at 4am to kill a mob for that 10% chance it will drop the piece I need.

You could always impose a limit on yourself of only ever using crafted gear and drops from savage, if getting easy chore gear doesn't interest you.
