I don't think you'll find the entire FFXIV bestiary in FFXIII either. I think you meant the opposite way around ^_~
(Also, I certainly can't find all of XIII's bestiary in XIV.)

As for the topic, I have less issue with models being taken from XIII (or even XI, though I'm fairly sure at least half of those have upgraded graphics), because the models fit in with the aesthetic sense the rest of the world has. The YW weapons... look like the "plastic" toy weapons you get from Gold Saucer, and since I doubt they'll have stats that warrants using them as-is, that's pretty much how I'll see them ^^; The minions... sure. Minions in general in XIV have slightly more cartoonish appearance. But the mount? To me, it looks as out-of-place as a traditionally drawn-and-animated creature would in an otherwise CG-animated movie.

Tbh, I think it would be worse, the rehashing from old games and nostalgia is something I love from the FF series. And besides, it's not like all allagan stuff is ripped either. I must be misunderstanding you though, because I don't see for a second how stuff from another FF series translates into justification of this YW bleh.

Can you not see how the ultra cartoony look of them is out of place in a more "realistically" animated world? Even the Kettle Bell Nexus doesn't look goofy like them. And at least they fit in with a running joke about Gerolt.

It looks like its a kids toy they picked up from the store lol
^This, that spear looks like something you would find in the 3-6 isle at walmart.

Yes, those are definitely goofy and kiddy. But not cartoon-like. You'd have more of a point if said turtle looked more along these lines:

It's not the nonsensicality of the item in itself I'm talking about (and I'm fairly sure it's the same for most of those arguing against the "cartoony" style of them), it's the graphic style.

The Adamantoise mount, while silly (outrageously so now that it can "fly"), doesn't look jarringly dissimilar from its surrounding graphics.
    The YW mount does. At least in my eyes. Compare it to a Revenant, or Bogy or any kind of "ghost" enemy. They're a lot more detailed. They don't look like they're made of plastic. ^^;

Original ideas is worse than rehashing? Alright. Again, don't really remember older FF games rehashing sprites or 3D models as much as XIV does.
I think II and IV on PSP shared the same ogre sprite? and V and VI had the same Gaelkitty.

Harmless throwaway event for a great game in a mediocre one that wont impact the game's lore or world in the slightest because it's just cosmetics. Don't have to like it but it's not going to change Eorzea forever.

And no, the old games don't rehash sprites or recycle 3D models as much as FFXIV does.
Interesting twist of what I said, I'll give you credit there.

At what point did I say all rehashing is better than all original ideas?(please point that part out) Bringing elements from past FF into new ones is simply a nice nostalgia, and something that has happened in all FF, at this point, an FF without it would be out of place.

Also, please point out where I said commented on the quantity of rehashing between different Final Fantasy releases. That "And no..." comment, while snarky and condescending, doesn't really have a place, since I made no reference that qualified it, good one though. (I can do snark too! yay!)

Shit fit? where is a shit fit? How does that even apply to the quote?

But a little light has been shed on the aggressive defense you have to the discussion. You view YW as a great game, and FFXIV as a mediocre one. Pieces have fallen into place.

Also, anything in the game effects the world in the slightest. Otherwise you wouldn't be defending it so vehemently.

tbh, it's just a discussion, not a shit fit, I'm sorry if you see it as some anger fueled rage battle, "Rabble! Rabble! Rabble!" and some such. It's just people expressing their opinions on something they enjoy. But do you really view the game as "mediocre" and if so, why are you so impassioned about it?
You are even the one who started this thread, or did you intend for it to be just a thread of people in agreement getting together and bashing those they don't agree with the topic on?

All the weapons except for the DRK sword look ridiculous, like big simplistic plastic toys. If they had made more of an effort to incorporate them better into the FFXIV style it probably would've gone over better.

The Yokai stuff is ok because it's a collaboration. An in-game hoodie? eh, not so much unless it's heavily modified (Eorzea seems pretty bare of knit cloth apart from yarny stuff) and then people would just complain about not being able to visor it over their head.

Personally I think the axe looks pretty cool. The Amano-style stuff sticks out more of a sore thumb than most of these Yokai weapons.

Considering that these can be "joke" weapons, now people got what they asked for!

I'm not crazy about the Yokai-Watch stuff either, but there are several things I am keeping in mind when looking at this whole issue.

First and foremost, is it a big hit with the JP playerbase? If it is, then mission accomplished. Obviously the event collaboration is aimed to that demographic because the series is a much bigger deal in Japan than anywhere else. If they're eating up the product placement in XIV, "aww cute!" then I'm under the impression that regardless of how some western players feel about it, it was worth it. And apparently if Yoshi-P is a fan of the franchise and he has the chance to stick bits of it into his game, by gum, he will.

    Secondly, this:

My thoughts exactly, people made a thread asking for "joke" weapons a bit ago. Well here they are. No, it's not a mop lance, or your paper fan sword, but they're just as out-of-place as anything mentioned in that thread. Big ol' (mostly gaudy) toy weapons like mentioned previously in this thread.

For me personally, I think the weapons are a mixed bag and everyone's taste/interest in them is going to differ. Majority of those weapons are meant to be cute (and I think they are), and you know some people don't want cute on their weapons, so don't use them. I find the DRK sword charming in it's own way without having to be cute. However, I am extremely disappointed in both the AST and SMN weapons- because they are neither cute nor "cool" to look at. AST's is extremely (in my opinion) un-inspired compared to mostly every weapon they have once you move past the 30-50 weapons, and SMN has that god-awful brown poodle thing with the drunk-looking cartoony bespectacled man's face on it (while the book itself looking pretty plain with some metal accents).

The worst part for me is, as some already said, the mount. Oh, I'm beyond caring about what looks silly flying around thanks to the Adamantoise, but I'm still disappointed in SE for releasing a Macy's Parade float. For everyone who's ever mocked people on these forums for wanting personal wings for a "mount," you better watch out at the rate we're going.
