Blame the troll then, not the person being trolled. Blaming the victim is an age old strategy that's as wrong now as it was at any other time.

A couple of minutes? If you're extremely lucky maybe.

But you wouldn't have to worry about anything as long as you weren't the one trolling. Don't attack what the troll pulls, let him die, and I'd gladly get the adds off of you. Simple.

There's a difference in not picking up adds off the dps, and not pulling them off the dps that are DELIBERATELY pulling them and disrupting the run for everyone else..

As much as I talked about loving PLD some time ago, I have had a negative run-in with content lately in the form of me doing horrible, and I don't know why.

Yesterday, I MT'd Sephirot Ex just fine. But when I joined two other groups and PLD then DRK, I kept wiping the group unintentionally. I would either not stand in my tower, I couldn't grab a Binah in phase 3 that killed our WHM, I didn't pop a CD for the splash damage in phase 3...just all kinds of messing ups.

The other day, I just couldn't keep aggro in dungeons. It was my first time losing hate in the recent dungeons. In Mentor Roulette, I got knocked off the edge twice in Titan Ex. In Garuda Ex via Mentor Roulette, I had a brain fart on the Spiny: first time, I killed it too soon. Second time, I couldn't Voke it off the healer because I had just Voke Chirada.

I feel like I do not want to touch my PLD or DRK for a while now. Kinda regret passing BRD bow to get DRK weapon in Sephirot Ex.

I used to tank back before 3.0 hit, but decided to stop afterwards due to the fact that tanking requires good gear at all times or they're going to lose aggro alot. Since 3.0 hit i've just been playing DoM jobs, but I'm wondering if I should pick up Drk and give it another shot. Have they made it easier for tanks to hold aggro regardless of gear?

Hmm there really isn't, but regardless, I am not going to convince you and the other guy it seems.

I would think it is obvious that playing poorly in a tantrum because the DPS picked up some extra mobs would be frowned upon, but shrug.

No one said anything about playing poorly.

Think of it this way. Say the tank, knowing their own limits, knows that they can safely pull (and hold) ten mobs, but no more. So they gather those 10, and proceed to do their job.

A DPS decides that 10 isn't enough, and purposely pulls 5 more. The tank (going by your theory) pulls them all off of the dps. However those 15 mobs are a bit beyond the tanks ability. So the tank starts taking damage faster than it can be healed. The healer begins to struggle, and the tank eventually dies. Then the healer, then the dps. Congrats, we have a wipe.

If the tank simply let the dps die, all the mobs would then move to the tank. Maybe they can pull it off, maybe they'll still wipe. But at that point the fault would be on the dps, who would hopefully learn their lesson.

So really that would be the dps playing poorly. A good tank knows their limits, and will pull accordingly. They set the pace. And the dps should follow.

I main PLD and I like tanking with friends but I never never queue into DF alone as one. I'll go in on a DPS instead. I play this game to have fun and all the crap tanks have to deal with from strangers is not fun. Simple as that.

Refusing to humor a jerk is throwing a tantrum? So when someone purposefully drops trash at your feet, nods towards it and says

"Would you pick that up for me love? Thanks."

you just pick it up like the good boy/girl you are and respond

    "You're welcome."

Not the healthiest attitude but each to their own.

If DPS pull a bunch of mobs and the tank doesn't get them, the healer will get them and die.

I tried to like tanking but I just don't and for many reasons compared to other games.

    1. you will be called out if you make a small mistake, even from undergeared people, where as a dps or healer you won't be.
    2. you will have a hard time soloing fates / killing mobs solo / etc / as a tank because of the hilariously low dps output (even compared to healer which is super funny)
    3. It's a thankless job, if you do good in a dungeon yay for you nobody cares, it's thankless to the very core. Unrewarding in all circumstances.
    4. Your secondary stats are mostly garbage, parry is the biggest joke this game has to offer and it's for tanks. Where as secondaries for other classes remain useful. good ole double standards. (anything with parry is auto garbage even if its 230+)

    5. You will be left standing afk in town because you finished your lore/midas whatever faster, playing a tank makes you afk more often because there is nothing left to do.

there is a thousand reasons why tanking is awful in this game and I feel sorry for the ones who main it.
