It doesn't work like a Dungeon or trial, it is incompatible with the DF. Diadem has is own Duty Finder. What we need is add things that really make interesting Diadem, a way to go solo and join other parties or go only to gather alone or with less than 4 members. THis also need give us the ability to fly since beggining.
You can queue up in Ishgard near the AST trainer building. Airship Landing Strip. It's full of gatherers though so I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for spoils.

I think what you want is for SE to separate the diadem ques into DOW/M diadem ques and DOL ques and remove the ability to swap from a DOWM to DOL and vice versa so that you can get the thing you want out of the diadem without as much organization/leadership work. Personally, I don't really care; I've both the competency and charisma to make a farm group work. I'll wish you good luck convincing SE though. Oh and the inability to swap class would've been a great help for diadem farmers back in 3.1 when it was a viable way to get i210 jewelry...you know, that second ring. Now though, not so much.
the trouble of the diadem, that it is like a new zone, but instead to have add it normally, it's gated behind a full group system that can't work. a lot of people will want to go gather stuff, another part will go kill monster. meaning that it's impossible to organize this.
worst the diadem are not different than a bashing of monster for a long time, it's mindless and end in zergfest for the monster part. them error was to make the diadem for soo many person at the same time. worst to ask full party for enter instead to make group of 4 able to enter. i will not talk about the whole purpose of the diadem that are simply a junk, the mission are not interesting, the loot inside the diadem are (outside the mark for the materia 5) not that good and barelly worth the time and mindless grind behind.
what it's the result? the diadem is dying slowly... instead to make a sort of area generate randomly (monster and loot) we did get something that not different than an open world content, exept it do show that open world content (in this form) is not wanted.
why the diadem did work at the start? because it was possible to earn reward that was worth the time spend inside it. now the diadem give junk, outside hardcore that farm Savage midas, the materia 5 are pointless on i220-230 gear from token and midas, it's a huge loose to even put this into this gear.
Yoshida think that the savage gordias was abandonned before because of the diadem reward... when it was because people that take part into this sort of extremely hard content are not that many, they can try to make all the game not rewarding for push us into it.... it don't change the fact that without time and the static for it, a lot of person will simply not partake this sort of content. and diadem is another victim of the politic to make the raid the only endgame available...
a bit like the challenging dungeon that we still wait or true midcore content, extreme are not midcore, it ask statics and time for do it too... midcore don't have always a full static available and only one fight for 3 month is barely acceptable. midcore need true content, give use a new challenge mode for group of 4 player, it will allows person to create link and maybe build new static, soo far we jump from dungeon expert at 4 (barely difficult) to raid at 8 asking a good coordination, without something between the two type of content.
it's nice to focus on raid and such, but check your number, how much person do normal and don't do savage... if it's over 80% you need to ask yourself if something is not right.
I believe it was meant to be based on Final Fantasy XI's end-game activities, and seems to have worked well in that regard, since it is every bit as soul-crushingly boring as Sky NMs.the trouble of the diadem, that it is like a new zone, but instead to have add it normally, it's gated behind a full group system that can't work. a lot of people will want to go gather stuff, another part will go kill monster. meaning that it's impossible to organize this.

Reason why you can't do it in nomal duty finder: The content want a entrance fee from you.
Just queue up in Ishgard and pay the fee. After queuing up you can go wherever you want until it start.
You can also sell themwhy the diadem did work at the start? because it was possible to earn reward that was worth the time spend inside it. now the diadem give junk, outside hardcore that farm Savage midas, the materia 5 are pointless on i220-230 gear from token and midas, it's a huge loose to even put this into this gear.
