4.0 Swimming

Simple swimming is totally useless for simple travel over a large body of water. We could fly over the water and travel to other side much faster. UNLESS swimming will be used to explore underwater areas where flying mounts can't go. This is the only way I see swimming as a viable traverse mean. I also miss ships. There are a lot they can do with swimming but I'm not hyping over it. Underwater exploration is not easy to make at all if you wanna make it right. I do not expect a free roam swimming like flying. I believe its easier for them to make a "dive" area where you jump into the water watching a small cutscene of you diving into the depths of the sea reaching an underwater cavern/ruins where you can walk and breathe again. Like a fancy teleportation means. We will know more after the Fan Festivals. 4.0 will arrive Spring/Summer 2017. It's still pretty far away.

I can't find the exact quote, but I think at one point the devs were deciding on Flying or Swimming for 3.0.

Now that HW is flying...how would you guys feel about swimming next expansion?

This was the worst wow zone ever. A lot of people ended up skipping this area. The zone is huge of course, your player character swims so slow unless you were a druid who could become a orca/seel or had a underwater mount. You always had to use a mount and had to deal with a oxygen bar.

If FFXIV included swimming in 4.0 I will probably do my best to avoid the areas that require swimming. If it's all zones and if implementation is bad then i know for sure my gatherers will never get past level 60 lol....games try to make the underwater combat and travel meaningful but it almost never works out...

I will be happy if there is no oxygen bars and the enemies were fixed to the sea floor or sea plateaus than free swimming creatures so we have to "land" on the sea floor to enage them. Also SE would probably give everyone a starter swimming mount at the start. If swimming is like this then I'm good lol

I typically tend to hate underwater combat, but hey who knows, maybe they can make it work. It'll be quite tricky to pull off though, if they fail people will be really angry, but if they succeed then people will praise them for being the only company to be able to pull it off lmao.
