Putting story and lore in to a cutscene makes the experience a lot more personal for each person who plays the game. Cutscenes are important.
I'd consider it quite a personal experience to roleplay with a GM, I mean... that's not scripted, and it's not something everyone will experience when they reach a certain level. It would be nice if we had some kind of warning though, but then Ul'dahs streets would become absolutely jam-packed and the chat log would go crazy whenever a GM appeared if we knew they were coming.
