My native language isn't english either but I prefer if people talk to me in english, at least if there is/are a person/people who can't understand anything otherwise. If I am in dungeons and someone writes something in another language I understand I will still respond in english since it is more likely that everyone speaks english but probably not german or french.
I do think it is really unfriendly to communicate in a way that isn't understandible for everyone and I say that because I was in a group before consisting of 6 french people tanlking mostly french even though pretty much everyone selected english as an option... I did not understand a word.
Everything that I can say after three years of french classes is "Je ne parle pas français".
